Default buying a web site

I see several web sites for sale on ebay from a company called Tetyanawebsites.

Are these worth buying? If I want to buy a web site, what should I be aware of? What do I have to avoid?

Also, is it worth buying a web site or is it better to build one from scratch?
As I have never built a web site, I'm not sure where to begin.

I checked out their listings. It looks like they are just ebay affiliate stores. I don't think their designs are unique.

IMHO, you can get a much better site here at the Warrior Forum for the price. One with a unique design and some content as opposed to just ebay listings. Or for way less money you can get a really nice PLR blog.

Plus for one of those you would have to be an ebay affiliate and that program is really hard to get into these days. Not sure if they take the site back if you can't get into the affiliate program?

Just my 2 cents

Lee

Honestly, if you want to get into buying sites, don't do it on ebay. I've been buying and selling sites for quite a few years and almost never do I find a great deal on ebay. They're just marketed to get a sale and most of the time require more work getting up to par than buying a solid one (from flippa.com) or just building. Most of those will be cookie cutter you could set up in an hour or two but won't realize until you buy it how easy it would have been to do yourself.

Thanks for the info. I thought there might be a cache to this.
My problem is I don't know what it takes to create my own web site. I don't know what software I need to do this, nor what software I need to write articles, etc.
Anyway, thanks for the feedback

Thanks for your feedback.
You make it seem that it is easy to create my own website. I don't even know where to begin. Do I need to buy some web building software? If so , what's good?
Again, thanks for your feedback.

I would check out flippa.com, the sites on the Warrior Forum, sites on Namepros.com.

I would avoid any Ebay affiliate stores unless you are already an Ebay affiliate. They turn down more people than they approve.

If you can afford it, sites that are already making money can be a good buy, but there is much to watch out for. Make sure you see real stats. Make sure that the site isn't selling a product that has been sold to death as a WSO and is on the decline.

If you buy a start-up site, be prepared to create unique content, start some backlinking campaigns and other means of promotion. A lot of people buy a startup and then do nothing with it.

Holger,

Thanks to outsourcing you don't really need any technical knowledge yourself. Check out the Warriors for Hire section here for some great web designers.

If you don't know anything about building websites or the programming behind it, I would suggest you visit the SitePoint forums. They have tons of articles on website building and have a very interactive forum. You don't have to be an expert in building websites but at least have a working knowledge of the components that run it. Especially if you are going to buy a website.

Sitepoint is also connected to Flippa so you can find some sites their for sale. However an approach I like to do is to do a search in my niche on Google or any other search engine. Find a site that has it's own product and content but NO traffic. So I would probably go to like page 15 and higher on the search results. Some of these sites are getting no traffic and they are sitting their abandoned like vacant houses. I would do a WHOIS search on the domain for the owner and contact them to see if they want to sell. You will get a much better deal this way. Flippa would be like buying websites at retail prices. Doing it my way would be like buying it wholesale. Good luck to you!

Nomanbd

Unfortunately SitePoint does not allow syndication of their articles. You can find plenty of other article directories to syndicate content from. You can look into ezine articles, articledashboard, buzzle, goarticles, articlebase, etc.

Hope this helps
