How Can I Get Attention For An eBay Sale?

I've decided to sell one of my older domain names, PatriotAct.com, and am trying to figure out ways to attract attention to it.

It's a name that's pretty high profile and has tens of thousands of Google searches per month.

I'm writing a press release about it, and I've posted on a couple domainer forums, but I keep thinking there has to be a way to attract "big" attention.

Any ideas?

Jay Jennings

PS - The only thing on the site now is the full text of the Patriot Act, just as a placeholder for Adsense ads.

I see a lot of ppl use backpage classifieds and craigslist to draw attention to thier ebay stores. It might be feasible to go that route too, if your not looking for the quick sale.

Hmmm... hadn't thought about Craigslist, I'll give that a shot, although not sure it won't get flagged since it's advertising something for sale somewhere else.

Classifieds? If I had the dough I'd do a display ad in the WSJ. =

You know there are a lot of news media web2.0 properties that you could setup a profile in and do a little commenting on thier blogs to draw attention.

Like just about all of News Corp. has web2.0 properties that are interactive.

Check out Business Week...along that scale. This sites have a large following.

Use Alexa.com and search for "news" and sort by largest number of uniques. Cross reference them at quantcast.com and look at the other sites that these ppl visit.

That will give you an idea as to where your audience is at. Then grab thier attention through the sites blog and profile sections.

Might take you a little time but it would save the "out of pocket" money.

I suggest you to list it on domain names auction sites.
Also, with small investment for featured listing you can expose your domain name to large number of interested buyers. Some sites, like Sedo, offer you promotion to premium auctions if your domain name qualifies for it. You should check if your domain name pass their criteria. Wish you good luck.

I kind of have to agree with mark on this one about listing it elsewhere. You need to remember that eBay is the discount capital of the world. It's going to be hard to get the amount that you want for it on there. If I were you, I'd list it somewhere that people are more serious about buying domain names. Sorry I don't have any suggestions since I know little about domain and site flipping. I do know a lot about eBay though, and it's usually not a good place to sell domains or website for any decent amount of money.

Forums for rich right-wing types? They don't even need to be web-savvy. Just put up that Obama/Joker picture with a headline, "Your insult here!"

If I had put more thought into it beforehand I wouldn't have gone with eBay, but it's too late now (unless my reserve doesn't get hit).

It could be a pro-PA site or an anti-PA site -- maybe I need to contact some rabble rousers on both sides of the argument and let them know it's available.

A good way to get attention for a domain sale is to look to see if the same phrase is taken in any of the other extensions i.e. .net, .org and so on, then do a search for similar sites on the same subject....

Contact the site owners with an email to politely inform them that your domain will be up for auction on a certain date and you thought they might be interested.

This works especially well if the same name in other extensions has already been taken (I haven't checked) as they won't want their competition to get hold of the .com version and this can sometimes start a bidding war which is good for you!

    Cheers,
    Danny.

Easily you can catch attention by doing some articles, bogs, videos, and press releases. Just direct every thing to your ebay page. Make it a big event. If you need any help, just give me a ring.
