One of the presenters for the 2nd annual WF seminar benefiting the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption had their guest back out at the last minute for personal reasons. The 2 folks I had on a waiting list can't come either - its this coming weekend in Raleigh NC 10/16-18. That means I have one free ticket to the event up for grabs, so - in the spirit of the WF I'm going to give it away to some needy person here on the forum. Now please - if you can donate without hardship then please don't apply - I want this to go to someone who otherwise could not attend the event. Getting out from behind your computer screen and actually networking in the physical world is a great way to expand your knowledge and contacts. So this contest is open until Monday Morning EST - I'll pick the winner at that time. The criteria is - tell us how will you pay it forward if someone could help you attend the event? Good luck! --Jack |

Jack- In the spirit of full disclosure, I don't know that I can come up with airfare/hotel that quickly. I've never even been on an airplane, I don't know what that will cost. But... I would pay it forward by -sponsoring someone next year -volunteer my writing skills in any way they are needed to the promoters. I could help promote next year's event, do interviews with warriors this year, etc. -I would help the new warriors out on the forum to the extent that I could/was allowed. I don't know if anyone will talk about any super secret ninja mind warrior stuff and make me sign a non-disclosure statement. But I would certainly be a helpful member of the warrior community. I try to now, but don't feel like I know much of anything useful on some days... That's what I have. I think it's neat that you thought of us with your extra seat. ![]() -Valorie |

Hi Jack, I think there may be some hesitation here - and part of it I am basing on Valories reply. It is all more than just the price of the event. I am in a similar position. I have the TIME to go. I also feel I could provide a very valuable service and contribution. But my additional expenses in an effort to get there and stay would be my biggest concern. I personally this past week was really excited over the contest going on in hopes of raising something to have a chance to go to this event. My personal costs would exceed most others with what I would want to pay forward or give back. I would want to bring my video equipment and tape as much as possible to somehow contribute it to this forum and to the other War Room Members. This would require not just transportation (amtrak quick glimpse is going to be over $200 - didn't bother to check airfare) and somewhere to stay (I am wiling to sleep on the floor even to bunk up with someone) but also video tapes and some batteries as well as some meals for the week. If I were to go I wouldn't want to miss a minute. Any video shot would go back to the forum. That is what I could pay back - for all of those who were unable to make it. How this video is delivered would be another story but one I am open to suggestions to. In any event while I do not have the resources to attend this event, I can give a $20 pledge to whom ever you do select. If you create a donations button and send me a PM to find it, I will go make a donation. I would want who ever did go to not be stressed for any reason and just have a great time. Jill Carpenter |

For those wondering about the cost. I have been checking the prices of flights v train v bus and there isn't a huge difference, just a couple of buck. For hotel costs, see if you can share with someone else, would be the first line of attack. If you can't afford the Marriot what about a cheaper one. |

Guys - If you have children and something bad happened to them would you count pennies? What about rewarding yourself for all your hard work or even just a weekend to allow yourself to dream and meet people who are doing it. Look when I first heard of the event I told my wife I was going. I told her I would drive if I had to and if needed I would rent a car. Lucky for me I was able to get a good flight and have a friend who lives in town so hotel is taken care of. Lets say it cost you a few hundred bucks to come and stay for the weekend. Really, what is a few hundred bucks over the course of your life? Not only that but this is an investment. Totally a write off and trust me, once you meet these people and get to find people that can help you it is totally worth it. My point - find the money, fullfill your dreams and come have a drink with me next weekend! Tim |

It's not over the course of ones life thats concerning alot of people...it's the "next week...next month" thats more imminent...I can see what Valorie & Jill are saying....it's not that easy for some...many other factors come into play...sick family members, last minute child or elder care, there are many here who would benefit greatly from the free ticket, but just can not swing it when the math is done at the end of the month...."find the money" is not an option for some... Those asking about airfare: I'm flying exactly halfway around the world (14+ hours) with one of the best airlines (All Nippon Airways) and my return ticket (including the hateful fuel tax) is just over $900. There are great deals to be had. |

I'd love to go but it is not realistic at short notice from the other side of the world. It is a fantastic opportunity for someone though and I will also pledge $20 to the person selected. I really liked Jill's idea of a donation button. Manda |

"I am constantly amazed how little people are willing to work for the goals they say the want to achieve." - Dan Kennedy I'm not going to guilt or beg anyone to attend. There are real world issues and there are excuses and I'm not going to be the judge of either. I've driven 16 hours one way for a conference. Hell one of the gigs I was on required me to sleep in my car overnight to save money. I did that - why - because I wanted the end result. The juice was worth the squeeze. Again if your dead broke and have family obligations then God Bless and we hope to see you next time. But if all you have are excuses well then you have to live with that as well. At any rate, I'm off to bed. You guys have a great night and whoever gets the ticket also gets a drink on me. Tim |

Wow, Kevin that is a great deal. Our flight is US $1,200 and you can multiply it by 2 as Rob is coming with us. We couldn't find any flight that would take us direct, so we have to make 2 changes before hitting Raleigh. 14 hours, Kevin did you want to depress me, mine is going to be 20 hours, and add on the time for the flight from NY to Raleigh Maybe we should fly to Osaka and fly from there. |

Don, swimming might have been an option ![]() If we try and book a flight from HK to Raleigh the cost was around US$3,000 each. I then searched for NY, or Chicago and the cost came down to around US$1,100. I then looked at the alternatives from NY to Raleigh on the bus, train and flight and the flight was exactly $8 more. |

The weather has changed tonight here in HK, we are now back with a Monsoon warning. There is also a tropical storm heading our way, hopefully it was pass us quickly or get blown around. Tropical storm = typhoon. Depending on the strength they could ground all planes. The last one diverted and hit Osaka, the previous one hit the Phillippines and then us. We are supposed to be in the dry season here. |

I am saving my pennies to attend this event next year. As I've not been doing this very long, my bank balance wouldn't stand the strain of travel from Ireland and acommodation as well as the cost of the ticket. But, watch out, I'll be there next time. If anyone in UK or Ireland is planning a similar IM event, I would be veryinterested to hear about it. Karen |

Just wanted everyone to know, I wasn't looking for a handout. I just didn't want Jack to get pissed if I got the ticket and then couldn't get there. I just thought full disclosure would be a good idea. | |

Since we've not had a lot of responses so far - I'm going to leave this open until after lunch. I understand about logistics and wish we could help with those but things are tight for getting a good donation to the charity. Goodluck and thanks for the various offers to help out the winner. best, --Jack |

Thank You, Jack! I'm super excited! And kind of scared, since I've never flown before. It looks like I'll need to hustle together $1,000 to get there. I'm hatching a plot to make it happen, more details later tonight! -Valorie |

Valorie, I don't know if you mind sharing a hotel room, but maybe someone who is already booked into the hotel is able to share, and this way you can both cut the hotel price in half. Look forward to seeing you there. |

Jack, and everyone who is trying to help- It turns out that getting the money together was the easiest part of this whole deal. I had some generous offers from warriors to pay for my writing up front, and some things came together offline for me as well. I'm not going to be able to attend because of another reason. My person that I trust to watch my kids is not available. It turns out that I can't leave on such short notice. Jack, I know you said I could sell the ticket, but I'd rather have you see if you can find another local warrior who could use it. I do thank you for choosing me as the winner, and I'm very sorry that it didn't work out. Being so close to going, however, has made me want to volunteer with next year's gathering. With more notice, I know I can make arrangements for the kids. I would volunteer to scout locations in the Pacific Northwest, write emails, contact potential speakers... anything you need. Again, thank you so much, warriors. I will see you next year, wherever you may be, that is a promise! -Valorie |
