Default Can I have multiple websites that redirect?

Hey guys,

I am trying to get set up in IM, and, as my beginning micro niche, I am going to help a local friend of mine who is establishing her own business. For sake of argument, let's say she makes widgets. In researching this niche, I have found that there are different, and uncommon, types of widgets that are being research, and, consequently, bought. I am doing the 30 Day Challenge now, and they are saying we need to have the keyword in the domain name.

However, like I said, there are different types of widgets. Let's say that there are:
greasy blue widgets
hard red widgets
straw purple widgets
notebook pencil widgets

Her business will be Widgets by Jill.

So, would I just do widgetsbyjill.com? If I just talk about each widget on her website, will that do enough to drive traffic?

Or, do I need to have a

greasybluewidgets.com
hardredwidgets.com
strawpurplewidgets.com
notebookpencilwidgets.com

And, have each of them automatically redirect to widgetsbyjill.com? Actually, can I do that? Would greasybluewidgets.com register if it automatically directed to widgetsbyjill.com?

I am thinking that it would cost extra money for each widget to have it's own domain name, but, I am just wondering if it would be more profitable, and get more traffic?

Thanks.

Jeremy

This is an SEO method that worked for a short while several years ago.

There's no harm in having domains redirect (301) to another site but in my honest opinion you'd be much better off putting all of your energy into just one site and making it a great resource.

For me, it is more practical to focus on one site. Then you can use greasy blue widgets, hard red widgets, straw purple widgets, and notebook pencil widgets as your keywords (example in widgetsbyjill.com).

Hm. That's good. If you were me, you'd just get the widgetsbyjill.com websites, and then, just start promoting and blogging about each individual widget to draw traffic?

Or another option could be to host a blog on one site, an ecommerce shop on another, forum on another etc.
