I have noticed that many people recommend using wordpress for affiliate marketing. Can anyone explain why and how to use it. Do you go to wordpress.com, or do you have to download a software and does the website url have wordpress.com at the end of the url, or can it be different ? Please help ? Marc |

Marc, If your going to go into affiliate marketing I would suggest you host WordPress on your own server with your hosting company. You will have more control of your content and you won't run the risk of your blog being flagged if the WordPress community does not find it appropriate. You can check with HostGator or BlueHost. They have very cheap hosting programs that include a very easy installation for WordPress through their Fantastico scripts located in the host control panel. Hope this helps. |

Wordpress is a great blogging platform - it's really QUICK, EASY and CHEAP to use. Also if you set it up right it's really search engine friendly. I would personally use Wordpress.org (self hosted) rather than Wordpress.com so that you have full control of your blog. You never know if someone else hosts your blog, one day it might mysteriously disappear. For the sake of a few dollars per month you should definitely have your own web space. You can host more than one blog in the same space too. You will need some web space from someone like Hostgator and you will need to register your new domain name. Once you've got your blog up and running you'll be surprized at how easy Wordpress is and there are hundreds of plugins to help you customize it so it does exactly what you need it to do. Hope that helps, Best wishes - Dave | |

For newbies, go down the fantastico route, it is quick, simple and it works. Get yourself a good understanding of wordpress though to ge the best from it, especially how to get the on page SEO right.

If you are want to have the latest version, use Simple Scripts. Fantastico is 2 to 3 version behind - my hosting provider - Host Monster suggested I use Simple Scripts. |

I use Wordpress for all my blogs, it's easy to use and there are tons of free themes and widgets available, so you can customize as much as you want. Once you get your blog making money, there are also a lot of custom themes available for Wordpress. I host on my own site rather than on the Wordpress site (or Blogger.com or other free sites) because it's totally under my control. No one can come in and arbitrarily decide to lock my blog or shut me down or delete my content. I work way too hard on that content to risk it being deleted -- even though I back up -- you still lose many hours work setting it up, etc. If you don't have a host site, I'd recommend BlueHost (no affiliate links here), they're the hosting company I use and they're very good, they respond quickly to screams for help, and are inexpensive, too. And it's extremely simple to install Wordpress on BlueHost, you log into your Control Panel, go to Software/Services, then click the Wordpress Icon. Follow the prompts and it's done. Hope this is helped. |

Hi Marc, Lots of good advice above. If you do decide to go with self hosted WordPress here's an online tutorial that takes you from installing WordPress, through choosing and adding plugins, themes and widgets, to writing your first post and promoting your blog: Online WordPress Tutorial | WordPress Blogging For Newbies Cheers, Martin. |

it takes less than 60 seconds to install wordpress on your own site from the cpanel of bluehost or hostgator. Either simplescripts, fantastico or other apps that are built into cpanel do it easily. Quote:

If you go the Bluehost route (which I use).. On Bluehost, there is a Wordpress icon in the cpanel, which is just a shortcut into SimpleScripts. |

I'd say you know what to do now. Its easiest to install from cpanel on your hosting. I'll give you a little more detailed info in this. I use hostgator so what I do is get my domain from godaddy and set the name servers in godaddy to point to my hostgator account. I then go into hostgator cpanel and click add on domains and add my domain(s) I just got from godaddy. The you go back to cpanel homepage and click fantastico deluxe. Then you click wordpress from the left menu. You then choose your domain you set up earlier from a drop down list so you can install wordpress on that domain. You then choose to install on the root or a sub folder called /blog or whatever you want. If you type nothing it will install on the root of the domain. You then choose your username and password and click install. That's it your done. now go to yourdomain [dot] com/wp-admin and you can log in and begin to build your blog. Mike |
