Please help changing my site to WP.

I'm having a bit of a hard time wrapping my head around this...

Here's my site:

Teach ESL to Kids

All of the pages are HTML pages that I made from a WP theme. There's a real WP blog at Teach ESL to Kids

This is an old site that I haven't done much with recently, but I want to start expanding it more.

I've been learning how to use WP as a CMS and I want to switch everything over. How on earth am I going to structure it without losing all my blog posts? Can I have WP on both the home and the /blog?

Love
Shannon

I don't think you can keep the .html format. (Although, I'm not sure. There maybe a plugin or something.)

But, you could install wordpress in the public_html directory and use the %postname% permalink and then copy paste the posts manually.

That wouldn't help you keep the SE rankings much.

Maybe someone else has a better answer.

    Sumit.

    Shannon,

It's going to be a fair amount of work, but yes, there is a way to completely move from your static HTML site to WP while keeping everything working, including page addresses.

An additional idea that is possible is to merge your existing blog into the new one, so in the end you'll have a single blog in the root of your site with contents from both the static site as well as the existing blog, without changing any of the pages addresses.

Again, it's going to be a fair amount of work, but I can guide you through a few pages then you can take over. PM me for more information.

    Thank you.

    Sincerely,
    Catalin Ionescu

The easy way to do this would be to copy all the content, create a wp blog post the new content then do a 301 redirect in the control panel from the old content to the new content

Your best bet is to start announcing to your current subscribers that you will be forwarding them a link in the near future with your new site. This gives you time to start transfers over. (if that is what you really want to do.)

Keep the one you have for right now until you have done a complete back up of your posts.

Back them up and SAVE THEM...

Let me know what your goal is here so I can help you get out of the weeds with it.

It looks like your wordpress blog is the free one.

I have a couple of questions you need to answer before I can help the right way.

Does your hosting company have fantastico? If it does you may be able to do this easier than you think.

Hostgator can do a site transfer in most cases. You can talk to the tech guys there and they will walk you through the process.

PM me with what is getting you stuck.

I can help. And no, I won't charge you. I will only try to help the best I can.

    Stay well,

    Rhonda G.
