I have noticed that people on twitter are not taking advantage of personalizing there twitter backgrounds, do you think that is just because they don’t know that they can, or they are just lazy and don’t see the benefit, some of custom the backgrounds I have seen look worse than the plain background twitter gives, and just make me dizzy. What are your thoughts on the matter? What does your Twitter background look like? David twitter.com/David_Miles |

Twitter background is really important, it just show to the rest of the people what is your personnality. Twitter is a social media, so remember that I is way better to have a personal touch on it.

I use them (and make them), but I don't think people may be using them to their maximum effectiveness. They are only seen if someone visits your profile or follows an URL to read one of your tweets, which is likely only if they followed a link to your tweet, which may include a search engine listing. But, most people read tweets in their own timelines or third-party tools. So, most will likely never even see your background, unless they checked your profile before following you. So, your profile might be viewed once. On the other hand, that makes those rare profile views all the more important to grab their attention. So, for that reason, I'd have a custom background so you'll stand out from the crowd and make better advantage of the few views you may get. Also, that makes it all the more important that you provide quality tweets, so that they'll get picked up by search engines and maybe bloggers and other sites that may link to them. Because, when people visit that link, they'll see your background. But, if you're not getting those incoming links, you're not going to be getting those views. The bottom line is that a background needs to be part of your Twitter strategy and not the only part. You can have the coolest background in the world, but if your tweets aren't worth sharing, that background is not going to be seen very often. |

One thing that did come up was … what screen resolution do you set your twitter back background for ?…. I’m running a 24 inch widescreen at a resolution of 1920 by 1200 …. So most twitter backgrounds look like they are cut off on my screen : ) What do you think it the best resolution to target? I current target 1280×1024 and up... So I think one of the big things you need to take into consideration when building twitter backgrounds is all the different resolutions and what the majority resolution is going to be that are actually going to be viewing your profile. (so far I do not know of any way to get that those stats lol) Dan you are right most people are using a 3rd party program to manger there twitter account … (I know I am) I use hootsuite. But I think the right background builds creditability when it counts. People only see the profile itself once or twice… and to keep your followers it’s really the content of what you’re posting that really counts. So I think it’s really important to give that what I would call a good first impression for followers by having a professional nicely done twitter background… To make it just this week in short I just think that the twitter background if it’s done right builds trust when it’s needed… Of course there are other benefits like building your brand and brand recognition and promoting their website ……the list goes on….. |

I've been working with creating tweeter backgrounds to fit most of the resolutions. I now have a photoshop template that I created for quick dev. I got busy on what I thought would be an advintagous venture (my bad) and put it on the back burner. I think I'll pick it back up cuz it wouldn't take me long to perfect the template and whip some backgrounds out in bulk. You can see mine at http://twitter.com/blueprint4money |

I use custom Twitter backgrounds on all my twitter accounts. The main reason for doing so is Branding, the same goes for my YouTube Channel both of them have the same look and feel of my site. It does not hurt to put some offers on the background in order to track and see if they are working effectively |

Hi All, Couldn't find a "Hello" thread but Hello anyway and this thread has a common interest for me. Twitter Backgrounds they can be brilliant if used creatively or intelligently. I have a site showcasing the best twitter pages/backgrounds. It's just a bit of fun with no commercial interest. cooltwitterpages dot com (Not sure what the etiquette is for new members posting links so I'll be respectful) I'm a pro SEM/IM of 12 years and the twitter background thing has been quite a learning experience for me. From my experiences with clients the background thing is just something nice to look at most of the time because you can't do any measurement with it. Having said that we have had some clients ask us to deploy information leading backgrounds and they are convinced that they do wonders. Personally I disagree but I could be wrong. I think that visitors ignore these things after a while. We are however experimenting with changing the backgrounds as part of the seasons incorporating funky ways of new brands. For example the halloween season is being used to promote something for a client. We'll see how it goes. |
