Help - virus/hacker problem!
Yesterday I received an email from my own site administrator account that has me kind of worried. The email, looks like it originates from my account and it contains a message stating that the site is having works done and to please 'click on the following link'. I though it was a phising scam but the link is to an executable file (.exe). I can only guess that the executable is a malicious piece of software.
I posted a warning up on my forum and believed that this was possibly someone trying to install something on my computer that would give them access to my database BUT some of my members have received this email too. My problem is that the site is being refurbished and I don't have the ability to email my members (which by the way number 30,000+).
I ran a virus check on my pc and every file on the servers and nothing was found. I reported the link to the Google's report malicious site facility. What else can I do? Anyone have any idea how anyone could send an email that looks like it comes from my account and how they could have gotten access to email addresses of some of my members? The last thing I want is for this to go to 30,000 people. There could be serious legal implications. Any serious helpful advice would be much appreciated.
