Using Blogs to send traffic to another site

Is this a viable/wise strategy? Say I've got an ecommerce site with hundreds of products: bluewidgets.com. Can I then create a WP blog, maybe even automate it with RSS etc and call it bluewidgetsnews.com or something, to drive targeted traffic to the money site?

yes there is nothing stopping you from doing this but make sure you include quality content so that visitors will return and you will get a decent position on google.

I often use blogs for traffic for example with many of my products i will simply do a domain.com/blog and then use it to promote the product it may include we have launched X or special offer on X or what you can do with X. In a way i treat it like another sales page that i can plug my product.

Whenever i have done this ive always got amazing positions for the blog on google.

    kind regards

What about setting up an automated blog, or blogs for this purpose? Anyone doing something similar?

Of course you can do this. That's what marketing is all about.
But make sure you do the following also:
    1. Make your blog informational, interesting, and targeted.
    2. Give quality information. Save the sales pitch for your sales page.
    3. Include sufficient links to your main sales page.
    4. Have a great day!
