Another lesson from Allen Says

I recently won the WF prize for writing the 1,000,000th post. I bring this up to point out the genius of this contest. The contest was unannounced and so a complete surprise. No skill was needed to win - only timing and luck - the right place at the right time.

The lesson learned was how it felt to be he winner. There was a physical response due to the surprise and the winning something out of the blue - completely unexpected. I can't describe the feeling. Everyone has read about Reciprocity and giving away something free blah, blah, blah.

THIS is the way to do it. I have receive many free reports, etc. and generally don't feel like I owe the person who gave away that report anything. I know he, or she, now has my e-mail and is about to market the living daylights out of me so I owe them nothing.

This is the first time in the 2 plus years I have been involved with internet marketing that I can say I FEEL that I owe Allen something in return for his generosity and his teaching. This is the way to generate reciprocity - not by faking it, or thinking you understand and begin waving free reports in front of people.

Surprise someone, let them win something valuable, ask for nothing in return, make it random - some one in your membership, or on your list is going to get lucky. You will have a devotee and a fan for life and spark interest in your community at the same time.

Thank you for this lesson Allen.

    Well said, ThomasW(inner) ;-)
Your message is warm and absolutely to the point.
Funny how, even given to random person, prize finds it`s way to someone who really deserves it.
    Enjoy!

Do you get your post reset after the 1,000,000th mark?

Ricardo, it was the millionth post at the forum, not the millionth for the poster. His post was the one millionth post that had been posted by the entirety of the members.

I share your feelings, Thomas. Genuine surprises are hard to come by these days :-) Your description on free reports are spot on too.

Wow Thomas, that's an awesome post.

On a similar note, when I get work done for me, graphics, articles etc, I always give them a bonus, and if you do that before the work is completed (even though can be a gamble) they always go that extra mile for you. Little things like that helps the world to keep spinning.

    Great post, thanks.

Great post. Generating true reciprocity is harder than it looks.

That's excellent, Thomas! And, I see you're from Chicago, which makes you automatically cool anyways.
