It looks like Google is going to start selling ebooks in 2010. But get this! Google is going to keep 55% and pay the publishers 45%! That seems like highway robbery to me! What do you think? I'm not sure from what I've read so far if ebook publishers such as myself and many fellow Warriors will be able to sell ebooks through Google Editions. I'm doing more research to find out. Here's a story from the Associated Press on Yahoo! News: Google to launch Google Editions platform - Yahoo! News |

If they can generate half the number of sales I am expecting from them, I'd rather pay 90% of the revs... Does it cost anything anyways? -Lakshay |

I like the idea, but why are people even going to Google to buy books? I dont understand where the traffic will come from unless they will just show ads for your book throughout their network.

Don't know what the fuss is here. 55% isn't that much when affiliates usually get at least 50% anyway, and if you were to publish an offline book and ask for 45% of the revenue, you'd probably get laughed at. ![]() As far as where they'd get the traffic, they're Google -- they get TONS upon TONS upon TONS of traffic to almost anything they launch. This kind of tactic is exactly what I mean when I say Google is squeezing the affiliate? They want to run a successful CPA model. This is just stupid. They control 70% of the search market and now they're exploiting it like Windows on PC's.

I believe Kindle authors receive 35% and that is the market share Google is after. Write it, forget it, receive 35-45% of sales to a potentially very broad audience. Doesn't sound like a bad deal to me.

I can see this hurting affiliates in the long run. Now you have to contend against Google + the 100 other affiliates promoting the same product. I wonder if they are going to integrate the books into their search results.... |

I see this as good news.. Flippin' Kindle won't let me publish on their own little "U.S. only" gadget.. despite my pleading, thousands of dollars in potential revenue for them.... NO.. Amazon expect me to move half across the world to publish on their gadget!!! At least Google is playin' fair ..lol.. I can't say that with a straight facePeace Jay |

If Google provides a fairly easy and/or free/inexpensive way to get it in front of eyeballs I don't see a problem with it.

Pretty funny when google says "ebook sites" are one of the sites not allowed to be advertised on Adwords. They've fallen so far. | |

It seems to me to be aimed at the reading device (kindle) market, rather than your 30 page "how to" staple, I would think there will be a ton of hoops and minimums to get through to reach their marketplace?

From PC World... "This is a whole new offering from Google that will create an online bookstore to go head-to-head with Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble's online presence. Preliminary details on Google Editions suggest that Google plans to share the revenue from online book sales with the publishers. Books sold directly through Google Editions would pay out 63 percent to the publisher, with Google keeping the other 37 percent. Somehow, Google also plans to work with and through competing sites like Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble. Sales generated through competing online sites would net only 45 percent for the publisher, with 55 percent going to the competing online retailer minus a small cut for Google." It looks like Google is really targeting the Kindle crowd as opposed to the "How To" crowd that IM appeals to. However, if it were possible to be a CB style publisher directly linking through Google Editions, that could be a game changer... KJ |

It could be a win for the author for sure, actually doesn't sound like to bad of a deal. These ebooks aren't probably the ones that you and I or affiliates would be involved with anyway. At least not at any significant level.
