Product creation or affiliate marketing, which do you prefer?

Being a product vendor, means that you are responsible for the delivery, and after sale services related to your product.

Creating and developing an information product for your niche market, takes loads of up front research, responsibility and integrity on your part, if you are a product creator.

Your duty is to ensure that your affiliates who markets your products online for you in exchange for commission, have the necessary marketing materials to promote your products online successfully.

Being an affiliate marketer requires less responsibility from you to deliver the products online, and provide after sale support.

Affiliate marketing is perceived as an easier way to make money online. The affiliate marketers who create bonus products to entice the prospects to buy via their own affiliate links, usually have more success selling affiliate products online, than the affiliate who doesn't have any product creation skills.

Which do you prefer to be recognized as by your peers, a product creator or an affiliate marketing guru?

Personally I'm not a fan of "Forum Marketing" ...
(Where it's too obvious they're looking for signature clicks or SEO
    etc.)

    P.S.
Alternately when I read a post that is bursting with good advice (and
value) and they don't try to "sell me" ... I very often click their link.

    Sheldon,

Did you not notice this thread started two days ago?

Why people choose affiliate marketing instead of product creation?

There was some good discussion on this exact topic.

I would just add this: product creation has some distinct advantages (as does affiliate marketing that you have pointed out).

If you want to grow your authority, reputation, credentials, etc, in your niche, I believe product creation will do that much better than affiliate marketing.

If you want to engage with and grow an audience that trusts and likes you because of all the valuable niche information you've made available to them ... I think product creation is better than affiliate marketing.

When you're ready to leave the niche (or even online business), product creation will give you assets, a subscriber data base, and a valuable piece of web real estate (your sites) that you can sell (often for large sums to another person who can take over your business). I don't see that same kind of asset building with AM.

I will say this- to each his own. Many folks won't go to the effort or won't have the skill set to create good products. You choose what fits your situation best.

    Good luck to you,

    Steve

      Thanks for the addition Steve,

That OP want to know why people choose affiliate marketing instead of product creation.

What I am asking is, "what do you prefer to be recognized as, a product creator or an affiliate marketer?

In my opinion, an affiliate marketer is usually only successful, when they are offering unique bonuses.

As an affiliate marketer, you would either create the bonus product/s yourself, or you would buy PLR products to offer your prospects, that would compliment the main offer you're promoting.

Either way, knowing how to put together bonus products to offer your prospects, to entice them to buy your affiliate offer, via your affiliate link, is a vital part to actually make sales online.

Prospects often only buy the affiliate offer you're promoting, because of the awesome bonus products that you offer them, when they buy via your affiliate link.

Hence my question. What do you want to be recognized as, an affiliate marketer or a product creator? Which do you prefer?

I don't see how what you said for vendors can't be true for affiliate marketers. Affiliate marketers build assets too: their expertise and email lists can be just as valuable as a product creator's. It just happens the affiliate chose to promote other people's products so they focus their free time on marketing instead of creating products.

You may require some seed money for graphic design, in your product creation project.

You can write a 10,000 word report in a Microsoft word document, and convert it to a PDF file, and you will also have a product that you can sell online, without spending huge amounts of money.

People value the content that is being delivered, that will solve their immediate problem.

Your prospect will definitely pay you, if you are selling a 30 page report, that will help your prospect to sleep better at night, if they're suffer from a sleeping disorder.

Product creation can be affordable and easy to do, once you know exactly how to do it.

  • I find it hard to believe that the most people can come up with a good product without having done some work online.

Usually working in a niche will give birth to a solution to a problem people are having. I think the majority of people wanting to make money online, with internet marketing are going to see how the industry operates prior to creating a product.

In saying that and answering your question, if you are successful in affiliate marketing you are really just a successful online marketer. Although there are many products that can be created and be successful, I feel very few people have the vision and creativity to develop new products.

So you are either a successful online marketer or a successful product creator.

I really like affiliate marketing. I have been an affiliate before and it was nice to make some extra money with my website and now I am looking for affiliates who use Google Adwords in their business. It helps the affiliate and it gives your name out there so it's like a symbiotic relationship.

I like affiliate marketing to 1) Enter and test new core markets before creating a product strategy and/or 2) To enhance offerings around a core market where we sell our own products (Ex. sell a yoga system to manage stress in 30-days and then affiliate around yoga equipment like mats, clothes, etc...)

I would never build a business entirely based on affiliate marketing...but that's just me...I like to control my own destiny, leverage my creativity/effort and I can do that the most by leveraging a few weeks effort into months/years of sales and have hundreds of other affiliates market my product for me.

They both can be implemented ..start as an affiliate, learn how to make money, develop some skills and then create some assets (product, build a list, fb group). This is a good way to develop yourself in the IM industry and your business as well....I prefer both in the order just mentioned.

I really like affiliate marketing, don't get me wrong. With that being said... in my opinion, if you have a good product and have the skills and drive then product creation can make you much more money.

I never went the affiliate route. I learned SEO skills so i could use them for my own sites, possibly affiliate, but in the end, i was making good money selling my SEO consultancy services to others that i never needed to go that route.

I think, ultimately, i'll opt for product creation for the sense of control it gives.

You have to become an affiliate marketing first and then create your own product.

In fact 99% of the marketers did that way

I guess I am in the 1% then and until I joined this forum I was not making substantial earnings. Earnings were so little that I did not really care. Then a few Warriors took interest in my products and showed me 'marketing ways' wherein we all made bank.

If anything, from their teachings and blessings I learnt some valuable lessons for this business and that is to be an Honest Warrior and first to the market with an Honest Product backed by other Honest Warriors. That old saying "Fake it till you make it" will never work in this business.. the circles are all knowing!

Product Creation. In my own product creation business I am in full control and the only authority.

Affiliate Marketing. In my own product creation business I manage the affiliates and I am the final authority.

Affiliate. As an affiliate of a different product creator's product I am limited to the control of my own business.

The three may be successful as separate online businesses when done right. And in the context of this thread all three can be managed by one person or a one man show 'managed' is the keyword and not the 'operative' word.

Combine the three and that is a different story and the end result is triple profit compared to the solo marketing method.

Side note: The real money is in 'Media Rights.'

Affiliate marketing you are promoting products created and sold by others. You don't have any responsibility except to refer potential buyers to the sales page of the product, and if a visitor that you referred makes a purchase you will be paid a commission. So let's take a look at the pros and cons of affiliate marketing.

I dig both. Create products to gain more authority and to earn more money per sale. Then add in affiliate streams to establish passive income, augmenting your product income stream. Really depends what you vibe with. I prefer both though, and add in eBook, audio book and paperback streams too.

I've been doing affiliate / CPA marketing (Non MMO) for 17+ years.

I've been doing product creation only for a year or so, which stemmed from my affiliate / CPA marketing experience.

They both have pluses and minuses.

If I could only do one. I would pick affiliate / CPA marketing.
