Default Which Host Gator Account Makes Sense???

I am setting up a company to do website design, hosting and marketing. I am going with Host Gator, but I am not sure which account plan I should use. At least at first I will only be doing simple 5-10 page point of presence sites (no ecommerce sites, etc...). Can I do this with their regular hosting plan (12.95/month), or do I need to go with their reseller plan ($24.95+/month). Eventually I am sure I will need to upgrade to the reseller account when I have enough clients, but would it make sense to start out with the regular hosting at all?

Start out with Reseller. You can let clients pay hosting on THEIR credit cards right from the get go and you get all the revenue from their payments. Transferring from a shared account later will be a major pain in the butt.

I currently have a dedicated server with hostgator. I suggest starting off small. Don't waste money if your not making it back. Each to their own but I go with a rule for myself that I only pay for as much as I can make with adsense in a months time. As you grow you upgrade. Hostgator has been great with me for upgrades and any problems i've had.

Since you are planning to offer webhosting, you would need the reseller plan because you cant do this with the regular hosting package.

If it weren't for that, then I would go with the regular $12.95/month plan.

What do you mean "you can't do this..."? Is it against their TOA, or is it just not a good idea?

I would go with a resellers account, and charge monthly to host the websites that you create for your clients.. because chances are they havn't a clue about the first thing of hosting..

I just got off the phone with host gator. The guy told me to go with the cheaper account even if I had clients' sites up. He said to upgrade when I was ready. You get individual C-panels with each account on the reseller plan. So that means more control over the individual sites, but if I didn't need that, and I wasn't doing ecommerce sites then just stick with the baby plan.

He said when I was ready to upgrade it would be easy, and there would be no downtime at all.

He never tried to up sell me at all. That was nice. He even told me about the free month coupon. I am going to setup my account right now. Thanks for the info guys.

Good! That sounds like the baby account which is all I need right now. It has Unlimited space, Unlimited bandwidth and Unlimited domains. I have up dozens of sites with no problems to report in years.
