European currency display format - is this right?

Hi all,

Am I right in saying that the majority of Europe uses the decimal place to seperate Euro's and cents (is "cents" correct?)?

So: €10.99 is ten Euros and 99 cents

...but those countrys that DO use a comma to sepeate:

So: €10,99 is ten Euros and 99 cents

...will still recognise the decimal place for what it is?

Is that right?

cheers
Sam

    Sam,

    They might still be confused

    In Turkey

10,00€ is ten euro and 99 cents (euro sign after the amount)

    When they see

€10.00 they sometimes think a zero is missing (10.000 = ten thousand)

American date formats also confuse them.

P.S. Officially the plural of "euro" is "euro".

In Sweden both . and , would be considered decimal separators but the official is comma. We use space to separate thousands.
An amount in euro would be €1 234,56 and in Swedish currency (SEK): 1 234,45 kr

    Thanks Martin!

I guess it'll probably be safer just to leave the cents off the end anyway.

And thanks for the correction on plural "Euro"!
