Hi,
I've a new website & am thinking of using a directory submission service. Is this a good way of generating traffic? I've heard that submitting to too many directories too quickly can be seen as spamming by Google - should I avoid any service that submits to all directories in one go? Thanks from another newbie! |

A lot of directories are just link farms and bad for your site.
I usually just stick with Dmoz and Yahoo, there are other good ones out there though, so not all are spammy.. just research each directory before adding your site.. and if you have to take part in link exchanges or swaps.. run like the wind away from it. |

I don't think directories are bad for your site.
If google will ban you if directories are linking to your site, then people can easily leverage on this and sabotage many sites. Of course there are ways to complain on some sites and delist their sites, but new sites, it is alright for you to do some directory submissions. The only thing you want to take note is not to do too much at one go, like 10 links/day is the maximum you want to go. in fact 10 links/week could be sufficient. hope this helps.. =) |

Link farms are not bad for your site - but don't expect any miraculous results either.

I've found that DMOZ takes forever, any way of speeding it up a bit?

If you are in a hurry and have money to spend, you can use Google Adwords. If you have time, start writing and submitting articles to EzineArticles.com and other article directories.Your article marketing efforts will produce results forever, while adwords stops the minute you stop paying.

Don't waste your time doing it, just pay someone else to do directory submissions, its cheap enough.

I suggest you only one directory DMOZ. All other or mostly are advantage-less, but not harmful for your site.
