I'm A Little Embarrassed At My Lack Of Resourcefulness...

A while back I saw an article or something that said how much junk the average person had at their house that they could sell on eBay. It was like $2,000 or something like that. But for the life of me, I can't find it now.

I struck out with Google (operator error I'm sure). Anyone know where I might find it?

I think it might have been called Treasure in your attic? Or something like that. I do remember seeing something like that too. I know there is a book out there with that name as well. You can find it on Amazon. I found a couple of links to articles but they don't seem to be working anymore.

Sounds like the sort of thing that would make an appalingly bad daytime tv show where some so called expert comes over to their house and tells them that their old chest of draws is worth $200. When they try to sell it they end up getting about $2.

      Actually, there is a show.

They take peoples things to real live auctions and get them thousands of dollars.

People usually start out with what they want to do with the money, like take a trip or add an addition to the house. They are given an estimate before hand by the experts so they have some idea of what they will get for it. Many times the people actually get more than they thought they would.

Here's what I found from eBay, based on their own research.

    Here's the blurb:

"Think you've got nothing worth selling? According to eBay research, the average Australian has around $3,000 worth of unused and unwanted goods. Take a tour around our virtual home for some inspiration.

As always terms and conditions do apply.

    Happy selling,
    The eBay team "

Here's where I found it (you'll have to scroll down a ways):
    April 2009

    Hope that helps,

    Gary
