I am in awe at the experience and success of you Warriors, as I am only 2 years into the SEO/IM game. That said, I would very much value and respect your thoughts or opinions on how I best proceed with this new project:
A couple years ago, my friend developed a winter recreational product that retails for approx. $40 and sells in retail sporting good stores, warehouse outlet chains, hardware stores and toy stores throughout Canada, Asia, the US and Japan. His product has made him a multi-millionaire. He now wants to market and sell this product through online channels. Having been layed off from my job last December, he took pity on me and said he would be my supplier, letting me sell his products at a price level that brings me $10 profit per unit. As mentioned, his only method of selling today is through traditional channels: He builds relationships with brick-and-mortar resellers and they are sold literally off-the-shelf. His company and product, which go by the same name, has a website but it is not an ecommerce site. Instead, it drives traffic to his resellers. By the way, his site provides almost zero value: 123 inbound links, PR of 3, domain age of less than 3 years. What should I do? Should I attach a store to his existing site, turning it into an ecommerce site? Should I act as a "super-affiliate," by building relationships and channeling other affiliates through me? Should I get active on 'Share-a-Sale?' or build sales/landing pages as a Clickbank advertiser? Or should I just build my own blog, optimizing it for applicable keywords (high SEOT/low SEOC) and maybe add a store to it? If you were me, what strategy would you employ to sell $#$%loads of this winter recreational product? Thanks in advance to anyone with thoughts, advice and opinions! |

Sounds wonderful! You however have posted many viable solutions, and I think the key to solving this is to just choose one (provided he is ok with that choice if you decide to put a store up on his site) and take action!

Ok, so...
The product retails for $40 offline. You have the ability to resell online and make $10 profit/unit Why would someone buy online from you and pay to have it shipped rather than going to their local sporting goods store? No shipping costs and they get it right away. You need a competitive advantage. Faster, cheaper, added value, etc. |

Hi czilbersher
In my opinion you should focus getting other affiliates promoting that product. That will bring you much better returns that doing everything yourself.Build relationship with your downline,Find joint venture partners and enjoy the people leverage. I am telling this from my own experience. Now as a product owner I am making 10 times as much as I used to make as an affiliate. What I did was to create multiple products in different niches, got affiliates, provided them the required tools and now I am raking in the money on autopilot. When you get traffic from the effort of your JV partners and affiliates, never waste that traffic. It's a proven fact that more than 70% sales happen during follow ups.Install a pop up form at your site, offer some freebie and set a 5-7 day follow up sequence. That way you'll be multiplying your sales many times as well as developing relationship with your list.Once you build a responsive list, you can promote multiple affiliate products in the back-end. |

Thanks, Lance. I agree...and thanks for your informative comment. I'll have to figure out what that competitive advantage could/should be. I'll have to first check out the contractual conditions that my friend has with his brick-and-mortar resellers. I'm sure they wouldn't be too happy with an online reseller coming in and encroaching on their business. | |
