Default Is this mind control? MIT-developed communication techniques for your sales pitch

Hi Gang,

After lurking here for more than a year and getting an MBA's worth of free education, I'd like to start paying back to the forum.

So here's my first nugget:

Patrick Winston is the head of the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at MIT. Yeah, bright guy. Every year he gives a (now legendary) talk on how he captures and holds the attention of some of the smartest people on the planet during his lectures.

As you watch this free (no opt-in, no-nothing -- it's a Harvard website) presentation, consider how these cutting edge communication techniques might contribute, say, to your video sales letters or live sales pitches.

Your head will spin with the ideas this 45 minute presentation generates.

----->CLICK HERE FOR FREE GENIUS PERSUASION TECHNIQUES

P.S. I have no financial interest in this whatsoever. I just want to pay it forward

P.P.S. You can skip the "Prelude"

Thanks for the kind words! I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of some of this material. There are some real gems in there that I could see having a great impact on any kind of sales presentation.

When I've earned a link here, I'll post it :)

I really enjoyed the lecture and there was a lot to take away from it.

I particularly like what he said along the lines of;

"The real value of an instructor is not to talk about the facts but to talk about his opinion of the facts."

Which I interpret as;

"We can all add value to established ground by contributing of ourselves."

Conversely,

"By sticking to the established paths we contribute little or nothing."
(see my sig)

As this is a forum about marketing: I think it is a great insight for marketers in general and I suppose much more obviously for information marketers.

This guy sent me to sleep by the time we got to spiel about the blackboard. He needs to practice some of his own strictures, does he really get paid for this? Nice work if you can get it!

Thanks for the link anyway!

Hi Madison

Thanks for checking out my first link here . . . I can see this forum is gonna be kinda addicting.

Yeah, he does peg the dweeby professor meter lol! But I figure even though he personally is boring doesn't mean that his material doesn't rock. In fact, I could see an info product spun out of some of these tips -- glam it up maybe though. Anyway, if someone gets something out of it great, if not, at least the price is right!

Oh and the spin on the title Genius Persuasion is my baby

When I've earned a link here, I'll post it :)

Now that was the best part, it's why I clicked the link. Yes possibly there is an info product in side it, but wouldn't have the professor on the video!

Hey Tom, I'm glad you found it worthwhile. Along the lines of the point you made about adding value by offering something unique of our own is his point early on that you must begin every talk with the promise of what the talk will contribute to the listener -- that is, why should the person bother to listen. What value will you add to his or her life? The marketing or sales pitch connection is striking -- the way to keep a person involved with your pitch is to let them know immediately what they will gain by paying attention. Etc. etc.

When I've earned a link here, I'll post it :)

Hey Tom

Thanks for the link. I am sure I will be able to endure what others are calling boring. I at one time enjoyed reading tech manuals. Plus I have suffered though many snoring sessions with college professors. You just have to tough it out and try to think of ways to use the information you are receiving.

Tom -- that is exactly the attitude that I approached this stuff with. Not everything has to be flashy, or, er, even not extremely nerdy (I mean this is an MIT brainiac afterall I don't mean to oversell this stuff, as I fear I have, but there is something to be said for looking outside the usual venues for this kind of information and, as you suggest, coming up with creative ways to apply the knowledge (or repackage that knowledge!) My sense when I saw this was that you could darn near transcribe it and sell it as a step by step script guide for any kind of video sales page.

When I've earned a link here, I'll post it :)

All I know is an MIT reapplication of math theory rendered boatloads of cash in the world of gambling and later spawned books, movies and documentaries (The 21 Movie Stuff). That being said, knowing how to take genius type techniques and theory (like the content Ad Ammann has shared with us) and reapply in a creative capacity makes for a rare synergistic outcome that only a few gifted creative minds will truly employ at its fullest potential. I'm all for seeing more stuff like this, keep it coming. Why struggle to climb when you can stand on the shoulders of giants.
