I hired a guy from the Ukraine to help me with my wordpress. I paid 5% up front (less than the odesk fees) and offered a bonus for 24 hour turnaround.
The guy helped me for an hour and since has disappeared. No doubt this project is small dollar..but I don't get it. ![]() I want to hire a warrior who is offering the same thing for twice the price, but still fair price. What should I do? |

Hire the warrior if you have to get things done in a hurry.
When weeding out bad apples from the good ones, give them a somewhat difficult task and tell them you will pay them after everything is done. If the person you wanted to hire does the job efficiently , hire him or her because in the long run , he or she will want to work like a madman for you so you will be happy . Personally , that's a good thing for me. |

Ive had this problem once on Odesk. I hired someone they worked maybe a few hours then that was it they dissapeared and never heard anything back or even answered my messages. Try looking on getafreelancer pr scriptlance. I always had good outcomes with the people on there...
or you can do what havoc says and hire a warrior as well=) |

What I do with Odesk is always pay by the job, not by the hour, and pay only when the job is finished, I do not go with those that ask for money upfront and it works for me.

on the other side of the fence, there are also problematic buyers in odesk. they ask providers to do work for them and then disappear after the providers have completed their work.
regardless where you are, odesk or wf, guru.com, etc., there are people who will try to scam you (regardless if they are buyers or providers). if you are hiring in odesk, always go with someone with a lot of good feedback and history. if you go for new providers, they can easily disappear, create another odesk account and repeat what they are doing. for old, established odesk providers, more often than not, they won't do this because they have a reputation to protect. |
