There are plenty of great tools out there that have already been mentioned, so I wanted to put something new. Don't think anyone has mentioned Alexa.com (apologies if they have I missed it). Until recently I only used it to look at specific sites traffic, but you can actually use it to search the top sites in an actual niche. So when doing your research etc on google for good keywords and the amount they are entered you can go to alexa.com and enter the niche you are looking for. Alexa will tell you the numbers of visitors these sites are getting. If there are a decent number in the top 100,000 you know this is a popular niche to get into. If any of the sites are forums get yourself on there with your "offer" in your signature. Also could consider contacting the sites to see if they would like JV.
