Streaming Video Vs Hard Copy DVD? Which is better for my customers? I’m creating a “how to” video series. I’m debating, whether or not, I should upload my video file to a protected “streaming media server”, like Amazon AWS, and let the purchaser have a password to download it directly to their computer OR go through the whole process of creating the dvd’s, duplication, labels, shipping/handling, etc.? A friend of mine mentioned, I would get too many refunds using the streaming method vs the traditional “package” method, because most times, people don’t want take the time, to ship anything back? Though, I agree with his statement, but really think everything is moving towards streaming/downloading. Plus, refunds? It’s easy to say, “I didn’t get it.”, “It didn’t work.” Or “Not Interested…” What do you think? Thanks For Your Input! |

Depends a TON an your niche... Most "normal" people would prefer a DVD...has better perceived value, as well as the anticipation factor while it ships. If your niche is a tech heavy one, then they will often want instant gratification, but why not add the physical DVD as an upsell? One important note about streaming...go overboard with your hosting, and be ready to serve your data spikes! (Nothing will generate a refund request faster then a new client hungry from your sales page who runs into choppy streaming for paid content.) |

I agree with CashBomb. Offer the stream at a lower price and upsell the physical DVD. Many times, (non-tech) people will want the stream so they can have it right now and the physical DVD to keep. Cheers, Drew |

I agree with all of the above. A physical Dvd has a higher perceived value. A streaming video is easy and fast, but it creates other problems with servers and bandwidth. Using a upsell with the physical Dvd will create more income for the same product. The best of both worlds. |

A physical DVD has a higher perceived value, will result in less tech support on your end as well as lower refund rates AND the chances of someone ripping it uploading it torrent sites or sharing passwords are reduced in DVD form. As a customer, I prefer to get physical DVDs for most products so I have a hard copy to save. Some products or niches are better as downloads though. For example, a $20 WSO about SEO or something...I'd rather just watch it online quickly. Here's a really cool solution...sell your product as a physical DVD and ALSO offer the first DVD or first section as an immediate download. This satisfies the "instant gratification" people want when buying online and should help boost conversion rates. |
