Best ways to promote/brand a new website

Hello All

I wonder what are the best tools to promote and brand a new membership site that covers several niches, not just one
I read about using PPC, SEO, article marketing, paid ezine, blogs, affiliates and the current "wave": social marketing.

But my question is: Can I really use social marketing (facebook, tweeter, etc) to bring PAYING visitors to my site?. All the ebooks I've read about this matter just tell me how to stablish myself as a "good" and "friendly" member.

I'm more interested on proven ways to promote/brand my sites than myself

Here are some idea about promoting your brand new membership site:
First of all right 10 or more articles for each of the service your are offering in your membership site: PPC, SEC, Articles marketing, affiliate... then have a link back to your site, with the possibility to sing in for free member space. Then offer them to promote your site as an afiliate (offer them 40 to 50%) and have a link to udgrade to paid member (with more and best product and with a 75% commission as an affiliate)

After that, you can combine several methods forum marketing, using web 2.0 strategies etc...

If you're talking about free traffic, why not connect a blog to your website and blog and ping and funnel blog visitors to your offers.
