How to learn market research?

I've put in many hours teaching myself to write copy. And I've personally gained a decant level of confidence in that skill, though I am still heavily pursuing it.

Yet as a freelancer I find that the biggest need for focus is my research skill.

It's not that I don't get good results in my researching, but I really need to take my efficiency up a notch.

Does anyone have some recommendations of great material on how to research?

I know the web's full of advice, tips and tricks, but what I'm really pursuing is lay down a system and method for market research, and product research.

I'm not hoping to do it overnight

What I'm really after is knowing where I might go to get a good solid start, and not be randomly scrounging around the browser for good tips and Ideas.

I've not taken the course myself, but AWAI.com has a course on becoming an Internet Researcher. Lots of good feedback on it, but it isn't cheap. I'd start with their free stuff first.

My advice to you is simple: focus on research in specific subjects, fields, and marketplaces. The more time you spend researching in a given subject, the more experience and knowledge you will gain and the more efficient you will become in that area of knowledge now and in the future.

To make money online, you don't have to have great knowledge and expertise in a lot of varied marketplaces. By focusing on and becoming an expert in one or two marketplaces, you will have all you need to make all the money you want online.

If, for example, you want to know about SEO . . . focus on that subject, do your research in that discipline, and you will begin to understand where the good resources are, where the best knowledge lies, and how to access the best and most up-to-date online sources in the field. You will put yourself in a good position to also know the marketplace for SEO services and where there are consumer problems and needs. You will know where there are gaps in services and how you might position a new business to meet the growing needs of those wanting SEO assistance. You will know the competition, the products available, and what prospects in the marketplace are buying.

Yes, you will be limiting yourself, in a sense, to a specific marketplace . . . but that can be a good thing and it's exactly how many online successful business owners finally found monetary success - by limiting their audience, becoming an expert in one field, and then helping others (and charging for it) based on what they know.

    To your online success,
