The worst thing I have ever seen online is a marketer trying to advertise a new product using a partly nude female figure. My feeling is over time people will not trust you. And as dis-trust sets in you'll loose business !! Sure at first you'll make a few sales, to the lonely hearted men out there.......but most men have a babe around or wife, so think again. And not to mention you'll loose out and making sales to women who can't stand to see marketers using women for profit online. I've seen this method work for some online for a short time, the first 5 toi 8 weeks or so, they hit it big.,...then their sales go limp....they can't get it back up !! I sure don't want to be in that category !!.......wew!!!!! Marketing in an art....do it right and make money month after month, year after year and build trust and confidence with buyers world wide. So why did I mention this..........Because a young college kid thought he strike it rich doing this......and he asked me what I thought in truth about using a method like this? I told him the truth....and hope he listens, right now he's a warrior memeber, but no name will I even mention here. I was hoping others would comment so he could read this from others besides hearing it from me !! Thanks Mr Money Maker |

Hahaha funny how you put that title together.. As for the partly covered female figure..my thoughts on this is that if you use it in advertising certain products (like dating sites or male relationship advice, or even PUA sites) then I guess your sales won't go limp (hehehe) but your's might whahehehe. This thread really gave me a good one..honest... All the best! Omar |

If it's a dating site maybe....thanks for your imput....but he wants to sell car parts online, using topless women...I think that's going a little far. I did tell him a swimsuit model maybe. Thanks Mr Money Maker |

Male enhancement products actually perform better with the scantily clad female making eyes at the nerdy male . Course this is not a big female buyer driven niche . I mean face the facts ... if your lady is researching the product for you .... this might not be a good thing :-) |

HI Troy....how are you to night? Anways we are talking about him slling car parts on a website and ebay. I just think in the long run he'd do better, without the Topless women in his ads. |

More men work on cars than women. Men, generally, like naked women. IMHO there is no difference in a swimsuit model or partly naked woman. Just some peoples perception.

HI Garrie....funny you'd say there's no difference?....because the law doesn't allow women to walk topless down the street.....so there are reasons and people making laws to protect people. I know marketing is different to some extreme from the real world laws ...but if you took a look at people not into marketing, you'll find many people who are shocked by marketers selling or pimping womens bodies to make a buck. |

I actually made the reply before your second comment . Multi-tasking lol Now from years of having this thing about building muscle cars I have a collection of old Napa auto parts calenders . These have some pretty scantily clad ladies on them. Vanna White ... Catherine Bach just to name a couple . There is a big difference in little bitty swim suits and topless. There is also a difference in these calenders, while popular some time back, would not receive nearly the mass appeal now a days . Not saying pretty women don't sell. This is still a male dominated niche ... just don't think I would go the topless route . Look at Go Daddy . They get men's attention in a full racing suit .

I was also refering to the marketing aspect of it. Both images portray the same thing - sex. They both objectify women. One you personally find tasteful and the other you dont. Quote:
Look at TV comercials for examples. While they arent nude, they still pimp women. IF the companies who do it didn't make more they would stop. Which tells me the target market is OK w/ it. And the nontarget market doesnt have much of a problem about it because if they did you should see lawsuits, boycotts, etc.

Hmmm. You're pitching to the gorillas and you want them to buy, but you're worried about what the monkey's think of the marketing? Who cares what the monkey's think? It doesn't matter because you're not selling to them. If monkeys are NOT your target market, then so what. Focus on giving the gorillas what makes them happy. G |

I assume that you actually have factual data that backs up what you are saying, otherwise, it's just your opinion. My advice, for anybody who wants to try this, is as follows: 1. Think about your target market and whether or not they might respond to it. Targeting women who are interested in learning how to knit will probably not work. That's obvious. However, it is quite possible that targeting young adults interested in online gaming, it might work. 2. In either case, test it. Don't just take somebody's opinion as gospel. We get the same thing with long sales copy, videos on sales pages and on and on. One person doesn't like it and starts making claims that it doesn't work. Test for yourself. The results are going to be different for each niche. The only way you're going to know what works for YOURS is to try it. |

Well for me.....I go to church, I don't cross lines between God and Money. In my eyes honest money making is best. Pimping women is not a good thing, even if the Lady agrees. I know some of you think make a buck at any cost...but there's also a payback....that can get you in the end one way or another. Money is great..but it's not everything. God,family, life, good health are worth more. And I mean this in a good way..... |

In the nicest way I can put it, your opinion of your friend's target market (the people he's selling to), doesn't matter. Steve Wags had some great points about testing things. This can easily be done through google analytics or free split testing tools. Not sure why you decided to suddenly tell us about you, but thanks for the info anyway The people your friend is selling to are not going to be influenced with what you do, or what you "think" they should do, based on what you believe. (I'm pretty much a strait-talker so I hope that didn't come out to harsh. My participation here is for the best interest of helping your friend, and those lurking) So staying on subject, my advice to your friend.. Ask yourself these important questions: 1. Who is it that you are selling to? 2. Where online and offline do they spend their time? 3. What do they think? 4. Test the marketing to increase your conversion rates. If you don't decide who you are selling to, you leave yourself trying to sell to everyone for all the wrong reasons. Pick a niche, and proceed to step 2. Step 2 gives you all the information you need in order to find out once and for all, what type of marketing to use that appeals to them- fully clothed? topless? Ask the people you are selling to. They know. The opinions or perceptions of others outside of these people don't matter. You could perform a search for related forums, communities or groups. Read the discussions. Find out what they care most about. Find out what they passionately dislike. Participate and ask questions. It's their answers you want, and the only ones that matter. Finally, test your marketing efforts. Go with what works, not what other people think you should do. Sales is simple: "How many tomatoes can I get for my 2 heads of lettuce" In order to sell lettuce to someone, you need to know they like lettuce, or someone they know likes lettuce. Hope this makes sense. Grant

the women aren't really his target market if he is selling car parts so although they might turn a thumbs down, it is not his audience. I doubt that a full topless ad is something that will work. Not many places for him to advertise it - atleast not many where he will actually make conversions off of. But cars and sexy women go hand in hand when it comes to advertising. Just a simple fact of marketing. |

SEX, which is what this all boils down to, is used to sell Lingerie (complete female market), Vacuums, Cars, Drugs, Music, Make-up, Hamburgers, Milk, Magazines on a large list of genres, Video Games, Movies, Electronics, PETA even uses it for pete's sake. Even in the market of massive competition such as hosting, GoDaddy uses this. ..heck, even Disney have clever ways of advertising sexuality. I'm having a hard time picking a company that doesn't use sexuality in some way.
