Layered PSD in a software?

Hey All,

Anyone know if it is possible to create any kind of software that integrates with a layered PSD (photoshop file)

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated

    Sorry Darren
are you asking if there is software out there that accepts PSD?
If so, I believe Gimp does.
If you're asking if its possible to CREATE software that can handle PSD, I'm sure this is possible...

      Hi Pat,

Yeah, just re-read, not very clear is it,

I'm after evidence of the 2nd one, looking to have some software made that will allow the user to select a layer of a PSD (integrated) i'm sure it doesnt make much sense, but I dont want to give away the project idea im working on

Just need to be pointed to where I can have something made

Thanks again for the reply, appreciated

        Darren,

GIMP allows you to do this effortlessy. You can open up the PSD file and copy/paste the layer into a new file if that's what you want to do.

Don't know if that's what your asking, but there it is...

I don't know.... They're skittish, fast, slippery, and can be SNEAKY!

        graphicsgenie,

You may have to buy a LICENSE if you want to create commercial software to do much with them. If you just want to read the files, I think that is problematic.

PSD files are NOT really pictures, but a LAYOUT and certain other criteria. That makes it's use in graphics programs COMPLICATED! The reason why it was done that way is because each LAYER can contain different types of info, so it can be easily changed and each layer simplifies changing it, and setting the relationships. So it is GREAT for a program like Adobes photoshop, to simplify changes, etc..., but RIDICULOUS for something like a browser(THAT is why photoshop exports to simple graphics files, cuts, etc...).
