Default What kinds of things are you guys Upselling?

Hey guys, I am trying to incorporate some new services & products to upsell but i can't get pass Teleseminars, Seminars, Boot Camps, Mentor ship programs as being the solution.

I don't want to offer a bunch of training that is similar in content just in the name of getting a fast buck. I really want genuine services & products to upsell that will be of real value to my clients.

What kinds of things are you guys Upselling? Just curious what others are doing to generate some additional income within their sales funnel.

Also, are you seeing better results with upselling Services or upselling Physical Products?

If I have given away a product with an email opt-in or sold my own product then I generally upsell another of my products that compliments the original product at a reduced price.

If I am upselling in a niche where I don't have another product to upsell then I generally look for an affiliate product that compliments my own product.

To this end, in the past I've tried to build a relationship with my competitors, a kind of you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. Admittedly some of these have been more receptive and more successful than others.

But with the competitors I have had success with I've negotiated a reduced price of their product and asked them to put up a new sales page that clearly describes the reduced price, and most importantly, stated that "this offer is only available to friends of e.g. Garry Sayer". This way my customers get even more value and are appreciative for it.

Before you offer other/similar products as an upsell try to upsell the same product you're selling but in a different form.

People will pay more for the same thing packaged in a different form, for example:
if your original offer is an ebook the upsell options would include an audio of the same content or a video with a slideshow.

You can also rebuild the same ebook content into some weekly course if you have enough content in it.

Offer a set of ebook/audio/video as a package for extra premium. People will more likely buy packages due to value perception even if they're getting exactly the same thing in three different formats.

Create this as a physical product and deliver through an online fulfillment house without even touching a product yourself.

When you run out above upsell ideas for your own product then you upsell with complimentary stuff, use the same upsell techiques for complimentary.

Thanks guys for the quick response. Gary negotiating with competitors to sell there product at a reduce price sounds like a pretty good idea (if you can get them to go along that is). Do you think offering affiliate products you are leading people out of your sales funnel. All the gurus tell you its best to have your own products with different levels of offering (sort of like to what David mention) to keep customers in your sales funnel.

Listening strictly to the sales funnel theory it's kind of difficult to brain storm and come up with tons of offerings right out the gate. I see this guy T. Harv Eker and he offers over 18 programs / seminars to his clients all at various price points. Low end & high end upselling.

David i like your idea of the physical product because things in the physical for the most part have a higher perceived value. I never use the fulfillment house since i had a cd tower and all. But i can't lie, pressing up cd roms and doing lables take up lots of time and gets very redundant. I very well look at outsourcing this task (hopefully they don't want too large a cut)

If anyone reading this has done offline stuff like seminars & training courses for clients feel free to let us know how successful those ventures have gone. Learning Annex, Tony Robbins, Yanik Silver, Stomper Net, Jay Abraham and lots of other people seem to be making lots of money upselling seminars & conferences (i know you have heard of those underground $5,000.00 a head meetups.)

Offline or Online Upselling? Seems like i need both of these in the mix to really bring the best value to my clients. I don't know, what do ya think?
