Hi warriors! I have been a member of this forum for quite some time right now and I was wondering if I could ask you guys for some of your opinions here...

I am going to launch THE most influential health membership site on the net...However, I need YOUR opinions to do this!!

What would you, the typical person look for when looking at joining a health site? And I do not mean from an IM type of perspective either...I'm talking about joining a community or forum that you really feel will help you with whatever your looking to help accomplish...Whether it's to simply lose weight or to learn how to create a chiseled jawline...ANYTHING GOES here guys!!

So let's get the ball rolling here and come up with some innovative ideas for a health membership site!!

Thank you so much warriors, for you guys are all seriously, the best!!

Unless its run by a doctor or similar professional I wouldn't join.

    So hopefully you're a doctor

Health sites abound on the internet and I have seen none by non medical owners that are reliable.
Health sites that want to advertise particular poducts are some of the worst internet marketing examples around. The idea of locking an authoritative article written by an expert to some MLM wonder kit that claims cure everything is selling under false colours.
I have many medical issues and am contacted every day by people wanting to know about aspects of some of the problems that they, too, experience. Unfortunately I am contacted virtually every day by some copy and paste artist with the latest, greatest wart remover, cancer cure and dipstick extender.
The latest offer I had was for a "natural cancer cure" claiming cures for all sorts of cancers. There were nice testimonials by five 'doctors'. Three of the doctors I could not track down. Two of the doctors were doctors of philosophy if the names were spelt correctly.
My advice to all the people who contact me is simple, if the site advertises anything at all that claims to make any sort of a cure, ignore it. If it advertises medical support equipment but only advertises one maker, ignore it. If your enquiry on the net is before you seek advice from a qualified medical practitioner, forget it.

OR when you said 'health membership' did you mean a site promoting healthy alterrnatives to foods and activities - excluding anything that comes in a box, jar or bottle made out of the Himalusian gobbleberry or similar?

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.
Build it, make money, then build some more
Some old school smarts would help - and here's to Rob Toth for his help. Bloody good stuff, even the freebies!

I moderated a fitness community some years ago. That experience and my experience with other online groups indicates that hundreds might be members but only a small percent actually participate.
So for an online health forum to work you will need A LOT of members.

The next thought is there are so many great free forums out there run by organizations with pots of money and lots of promo. For example Diet Tribe runs on LifeTime and that airs every week on TV bringing in new active participants to their online community. Then you have established forums like Prevention and ivilliage...And hip ones like Beach Body. And ones that tie in with popular plans like Weight Watchers and South Beach Diet. And established home grown forums like 3 Fat Chicks on a Diet.....

So you really have to offer an incentive to join. Something special and different. Otherwise why would someone sign up with an unknown group.

    Just some thoughts.

Wow Lee, you seem to have a lot of experience with these things..

To the OP maybe you can visit the sites mentioned by lee and check out what's happening there so you could duplicate it in your site. For health niches I think you'll have to do a lot of marketing since we all know that it's a saturated niche. If you want to learn of the hottest topics regarding you're niche the best advice I can give is consult your keyword tool. We can say things that would interest us regarding the health niche..I myself wants to get thinner and more muscular but the best way to determine what people are looking for is still by firing up that keyword tool of yours or maybe just consulting Google's keyword tool..

      All the best!

    Thanks Omar!

Actually I do have an idea for a forum that has not been done in the weight loss market that may work very well. Just came to me as I was reading through this. Hmmmm.....

In general, I think unless one is very established, has a best seller coming out soon, or a visit with Oprah (and even if you have these things) it would be very tough to compete against what is out there.

I mean take a look at Prevention. They have a slew of books, huge marketing campaign, giant mail list, and tons of weight loss forums covering everything from flat belly to walking weight loss. And they have a known name and community trust. That is mega tough competition.
And there are many other established sites with free forums also.

Not that it can't be done. But I think the effort required would be huge.
