Default Newsletter and RSS or just RSS?

Im seeing a lot of blogs leaning away from regular newsletters and moving towards just updating people on blog posts through RSS subscription

Anyone here just doing that and have they seen an advantage of doing that over doing both?

I find newsletter a better platform for promotions and advertisement.
I would use both to give them the choice , some people just don't bother with rss, some plainly still don't know how to use it and subscribe to it.

Important thing is a format of the newsletter and the newest trick is a .pdf "magazine" with multiple pages, professional cover graphics, nice graphics inside related to the topic, great content and loads of space for your jv/affiliate ads which you can also sell or promote your own products.

Darren Rowse of ProBlogger has a link just below his RSS Subscribe that says "What is RSS"? Then through that link there is an entire long post basically "selling" the idea of subscribing by RSS.

I think that is a great idea. If you can start getting people to respond to blog posts in the same way that they do to email then you can cut down on time, costs, and repeating content without looking like a "spammy" marketer.
