Making a Tutorial Book. Do I Need An Authorization From The Company?

If I want to write a book on a specific software, let say Photoshop just as an example.
Do I need an authorization from Adobe before selling it?

    Hi,

    I wouldn't think so. There are many sites out there that offer tutorials and I have a few products that deal with Adobe, and I have a video set that's a how to.

    I guess if you want to be sure, send them an email.

    Yes you do. And here is just an example that I've had.

    I tried to make a booklet on one field of IT that involved a lot of hardware and I asked the companies if i can use their names and logos for the booklet.

    They all responded with a no, because their name and logos are trademarked objects that can not be used without paying certain royalties.

    Now, I don't specifically know how much they charge i figured it will suck to ask them since they didn't offer me that in the first place. And i didn't want to come of as desperate.

    So in short, email the company whose name you wish to use and ask them if you may use the name, logo and software for your product. They will let you know on the details within a day or so.

    Most companies are more than happy for you to write such material as it helps to promote their products. Major companies including Microsoft and Google have systems in place to approve the use of their names and certain forms of their logos and they make no charge for this.

    Sometimes companies are happy to give a general approval, sometimes they want to see the actual product. I would avoid the latter group as they can effectively censor your product. Don't give up on this. It never hurts to ask the question - just go about it in the right way. Good luck.
