| UPDATE: Hey fellow Warriors! Thanks for all the great feedback so far with the script. Since I couldn't find a script that had the boing effect of HTML Blender, and I really liked it, I figured I'd just write my own. Now I'm in the process of getting this thing worked out, and setup as a WordPress plug-in. One way or another it's going to come out as a WSO (free or paid), so I'd like to know what would help Warriors the most. And now for the fun part, audience participation! Here are a couple of questions:
Old Post Code: HTML Blender has a script running on their site that has an arrow slide in and display. It say "Any Questions, Click Here to Chat With Us" and then fades out. I was looking at the Javascript (it's designated as cwu.js) but don't know too much about it. Does anyone know someplace I could find a similar script? Lance Johnson |

Alright, I think it's something using like the jQuery page slide, or AJAX Lightbox. I found a different, pretty cool script that would be able to have a similar effect though: jQuery Approach by Scott Robbin |

Got it! I ended up just writing a MooTools script based off of a couple of those jQuery ones. Any feedback is appreciated! The Thing That Boings In |

There's actually a much better "page corner ad reveal" thing for WordPress I like AJAX based stuff versus all of that flash nonsense. Did you notice that Rich Schefren & Jay Abraham caught on with that too! Instead of a tacky "Wait, Don't Leave" pop-up that looks pretty terrible, they put in a pretty dang good looking Lightbox "Wait, Don't Leave."Do you think other IMers would actually be interested? Or heck, interested in the "Wait, Don't Leave" Lightbox for that matter? I was kinda thinking about just giving it away, but it's a bit tough to use if you're not a programmer, or know a little bit. Thanks for the feedback! -Lance |

Lance, IMer's and site owners in general are interested in anything that can help build their lists or draw users' attention to whatever it is the site owner wants to. If it's tough to implement, create a process to make it easier for the less techy (like me, for example) to follow. Write it out, in a nice little pdf ebook with some pictures and you've got yourself a product. Test it in the WSO section. Roll it out... If you could find a way for them to add in their little aweber-like forms you could probably charge double. Tom |

Haha, it's funny that you should mention that Tom. I actually just got done with a plug-in that puts in your AWeber form AND a version for your ProSender form (I use ProSender). It's a little point-and-click doo-dad that is pretty dang easy. @tomw & Christian - I think I'm going to take your suggestions to heart, and roll it out as a mini product. Who knows, maybe it could help people boost their opt-ins. Thanks for the advice. -Lance |

Guess it's the wrong time of day or something. Doesn't seem to be working here -- on either the blender site or Lance's site. BTW, Lance -- you're a very clever dude, in more ways than one. I have a feeling you'll go far... |

@zapseo, thanks a lot! Although, I'm sure you see your fair share of clever dudes around Silicon Valley. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of web browser are you using? And do you have cookies enabled? Whether I'm giving it away or selling it, it's something I want to work for everyone. -Lance |

Lance, Your message and arrows "boinged" in on me right in the middle of the page, not over the sign-up box. Of course I use a not so popular browser, Netscape 9. FireFox is a resource hog and I do not like the new IE look and feel. Are there other more popular browsers that this does not "boing" in properly? Chrome? Opera? Does it work on Macs the same as PCs? ON EDIT: One thing I do not like about this pop-in is that I cannot close it. One thing that really irritates me about this type of pop-in is that is pops into my face before I even know what the page is about. It says "SIGN UP" before I even know if I have any interest in the page, product or anything else offered. |

Thanks for the feedback Bob! Would it be more comfortable to you if it faded out automatically, and had a close button, or just had a close button? Or just faded automatically for that matter? If it automatically popped to the side where it wasn't obstructing any content would it still be annoying? What if it popped up when you rolled your mouse over the header or some other div? Longer time elapses before opening? I wasn't even thinking about it and set it up to be resolution dependent instead of relative to browser window size. I'm looking at doing cross browser & cross OS testing now, but the info you guys have given me so far is great! Any more suggestions about where it should appear, or functions it should have? |

Lance, I would like it to fade in and stay until I close it with a little X marked CLOSE. Of course that get rid of the BOING! effect. I don't really mind the effect, but when it is IN MY FACE I don't like it. I would like to see this type of device built around the wedbsite (you can since you can program). Meaning, the pop-in comes in and does not cover anything before I know what I'm reading. OR, it pops in with a delay after the page is loaded so I can at least read the headline before being assaulted. Pop in and then slide to the left or right out of the way maybe. Take my advice with a grain of salt. Often marketeers using this technique say it works better than _________ (fill in blank). I'm only passing on my preferences. |

No Bob, every person's opinion is valuable data! All those things are doable, and wouldn't compromise the original intention. Besides, I need to be able to give marketers options for their own empirical testing Sure, I can do general multivariate tests, and with random selection they'll be assumed to be pretty much the same, I feel like every factor affects markets differently. So basically, I want to be able to give other marketers a way to say "this works" or "this doesn't." A tool is only as good as its results. That said, keep the feedback coming! (My feelings won't get hurt if you absolutely hate it - so feel free to throw that out there )Thanks again, -Lance |

Lance, I have kept your page tab open so the site opened when Netscape opened this morning. The Boinger popped in where it is supposed to be, right over the signup box, HOWEVER, the black text over black text makes both more difficult to read. If a popin covers text, it needs to be closeable. Personally, I'd pop it in where it is not in the way and let it stay there. |

Hey Bob, First off, I really appreciate the continued feedback. The boinger is probably still missing its mark by a little bit. The way it's going to be setup it boings all the way to the right, not obstructing any text. I haven't updated the onsite version though, and am doing all the testing locally. Should have all the bugs worked out and it ready (as a wordpress plug-in) within the next two weeks, so I'll shoot it over to you to see what you think. A few things I'm doing with it:
I'm pretty excited about it so far! Thanks again for all the feedback guys. -Lance |
