Also, I figured that even though I have a site on my own domain, perhaps a blogspot blog would be better so the backlinks from it are another domain's?

I'm just learning the "art" of blogging myself. I'm interested in any replies you come up with. As of right now, I'm posting my articles in my sidebar as links.

Hi Branlan.
I would set another blogger site up for sure or 2 using different related keywords to your main one. Also don't leave the visitor with the option of clicking for more to your post. They will surely leave.
Also regards rss and such take a look at peterdrew.net his is a warrior here really cool. his site will give you all the info you need regarding rss etc for free..
Also new myself but now i have helped someone here. Feels good.

Are you posting your articles someplace else?....if you are, you better re-write it so google knows not to penalize your site. Google could think your stealing articles and not rank you as high !!
I figure, if you post articles and press-release with backlinks to you site..thats great, but I rather have all new articles on my blogs and websites.

Would this apply if you are only posting the links to your articles? For example, I put links to my articles on ezine.com and suite101.

Do I need to backlink to the blog? It's hard enough ranking 31 articles and a landing page, I thought the purpose of the blog was more to give those seeing RSS a chance to click through to your page.

I repost content all the time...and I get a ton of traffic. As for now google only hurts if you have duplicate content on the same domain. I've even taken 1 article and submitted it to 50+ sites!! Guess what happened... I got a ton of traffic! The trick it picking the right sites to submit to.

I'm also getting into the blog world. Would it be wise/possible to take the quality articles I've written for my blog and submit them to multiple article sites, such as eza etc.

make sure that you have feedburner for your RSS.

Once you have your blog setup and make couple of posts, use OnlyWire.com, it will do the submissions for you

Yes, you can of course. I've done this several times with good results
