What is the BEST way to get quality traffic to your website?

I know there are lot's of different methods to getting people to your website. I have used and least 20 different ones myself. Even though I have been doing this for 5 years, I still don't claim to know it all.

Really what I am wondering is... Is there a newer way or system out there that maybe I have not heard of. I am pretty good at getting to the top of the search engines with key word phrases but they are highly competitive now.

I look forward to you input.

Thanks Ed

    Hi Ed,

The best way to generate quality traffic to a site is to get it either organically or through PPC. The reason is simple. Money flows to a site with a solution to a problem. What do people do when they have a problem? They google it.

Social sites and other avenues will rarely produce the same results as the two listed above b/c in most cases the visitor is not searching for a solution (although you may be able to tempt them with a solution).

I seriously doubt this will ever change.

    Hi Ed,
The quality of traffic will depend on what you want to do with your site. If you are selling a product, you can go for PPC or organic traffic. Even article marketing does well. If you are blogger and want to increase your subscribers, you should go for social sites like stumbleupon, digg etc. The people from these websites know what is RSS. Many people who come to blogs through search engine don't know what RSS is. You have to educate them in your blog about RSS if you want them to subscribe to your blog.

If you are earning money from Adsense, then the best traffic is organic. The people who visit from search engines tend to click on ads more.

For building opt-in lists, there are many free ways you can use like article marketing, forum marketing etc. I personally don't have experience in building opt-in lists but I have plans for creating a list soon.

For me, the best quality traffic is organic.

The quick answer to this is to go to where the eyes are.

There is many, many places where people are searching all the time other than the Search Engines.

I have been looking at some of the old standbys and finding that they produce just as well as organic search engine traffic

Without a doubt the BEST way to get traffic to your website is to use Google Adwords.

      Why?

Because you can pick VERY targeted phrases of your choosing and be on Google in a few hours and getting sales.

The only downside with this is you need a budget to get started, however you can set how much you want to spend.

The second best way is Article Marketing and personally i just submit to Ezine Articles as I tend to get better results there.

Although using Article Marketing you are not guaranteed to get search engine placements.

Which leads me to my third suggestion:

Making your own site rank higher in the search engines and for this you need to add backlinks and content to your site and it takes time but is worth it.

      My advice:

Use the 3 methods above together for best results.

      All the best

      Chris

I dont have any doubt about the quality of traffic from adwords but the second best method for getting traffic for me is video marketing rather than article marketing.
Article marketing used to generate good conversion but its all about hardwork. You got to keep adding articles all the time but with video marketing, you can create a channel on youtube only once and you dont need to update it as regulartly as you have to write articles.
Secondly, you can upload the same video to many different sites. You just have to change the title and description because thats how google knows about the content of the video i.e. through title and description. So, if you change the title and description of the video, google takes it as a completely different and unique video.
Video's also get higher in search engine more quickly than articles especially google loves videos.
Last but not the least, a video can get thousands of views quite easily but with articles, its really difficult

There's no single "best" way to get traffic.

Of course, getting onto Google News would help, and so would getting on the front page of the New York Times, or onto Oprah. :-)

It depends on what you're trying to promote, your budget, and the time you have available.

For many products, PPC is the way to go. Just ensure that you're making enough to cover the cost of the campaign and let it run for a month, or 300 clicks, whichever comes first, then evaluate.

One person says article marketing. The next will say pay per click. Another will say blogging. There is no end to this argument. And I can bet my bottom dollar we'll have at least 10 more of such threads before the year's end

Horses for courses. You have got to find out the best traffic generation that works for your business.

One target market will have a different behaviour than another market. One market might frequent article directories a lot or use search engines a lot. while another just surfs video sites and scouts for Ebay bargains all day.

One market might sign up to a lot of lists, another market barely.

You have to do a dry run for 5 to 10 traffic sources. Test these sources for a week or two, then quantify your results - the leads you got, your conversion rates, how much traffic you got as a whole.

So you can do something like this -

Article marketing - submit 2 articles per day for 7 days

Pay per click marketing - set up a targeted campaign to run for 7 days

Social marketing - use a combination of Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, social bookmarking and even video sites to market your business for 7 days

Classified ads - do an assault on both online and offline classified ads. Get as many ads as you can out there over a period of 7 days.

...then quantify your results at the end of the test. You can add SEO later on because that will take a longer time to test. This is how you can determine what will work for your business and generate the most traffic and the most leads.

Article marketing works for me.... getting one way backlinks is a big factor in getting organic traffic, which is one of the fundamental reasons article marketing works in my experience.
