Connecting paypal and autoresponder?

Warning: this is potentially a stupid question -- set flame throwers off

I have a product that I plan to deliver via an autoresponder -- monthly installments. So what I want to do:

* When a buyer pays they either automatically get subscribed to the auto responder or they have to subscribe themselves -- of course I'll still want the double optin.

* When a person cancels the recurring payment they automatically get unsubscribed from the autoresponder so they no longer get the product installments.

Questions:

* Can this be done?
* If so, which autoresponder company supports this?
* Do I need a 3rd party software to connect the two subsystems -- paypal and the autoresponder?

I think you need a third party app like DLGuard to help with this.

I know for sure DL Guard works with GetResponse.

Paypal without management software is a terrible thing. With DLGuard it's awesome

I use AWeber and they actually just recently released a video showing Step-by-Step how to integrate with PayPal. It was super easy.

yeah.. aWeber does email parsing for PayPal; not sure about unsubscribing, though.

I'd suggest using the PayPal IPN for unsubscribes.

If I'm not mistaken, GetResponse is also integrated with PayPal now for subscribes, as well.

When I sent in a ticket with this question last month:

I was reading up on how to integrate Aweber with Paypal, and there is this message "For recurring payment or subscription products, a web form will need to be placed somewhere in the order process instead."

I currently have a membership site and it is approaching it's second month. I would like to set up autoresponders with attachments to go out after each months subscription payment is made though Paypal. Is this possible with Aweber, and if so, can you please direct me to the area of your site where the process is explained?

This is the response I got:

Unfortunately it is not possible to base an autoresponder off of multiple payments. The autoresponder sequence starts as soon as they join the list and since they join the list when they make the first payment, that when the sequence is based on. What you could do is set up your autoresponder messages, each with an interval of 30 days. That way, they will receive the first message when they make their first payment, the second message 30 days after that, the third message 30 days after that, etc., which will fall right around the time they have to renew their subscription each month.

So unless something has changed in the past month or so (and it very well may have and I just don't know about it), it appears that Aweber can not be integrated to deliver content subsequent to a successful subscription payment being made through Paypal.

I'm glad you asked this question, Joe118, because I actually have the same issue and still haven't found a good solution.

Write a little app that does a http POST and set a timer in the app, say C# or VB (very simple)? - using a javascript timer that lasts a month would be crazy - or write a php script to post the payment and set a schedule in your CP if you have one.

I suppose aweber has this message about things not working for recurring payments because there's no way to handle UNSUBSCRIBES. How to get it to deliver content based off of the subscribe date+time is a solved problem, afaik.

Thanks to everyone who responded -- still looking. I may be able to set up something hacky with gmail and mail processing rules. If someone cancels a recurring payment presumably paypal will send email as well, right?

Doesn't aWeber allow for email attachments?

Their integration is very simple and will only "trigger" the auto-responder series using their own internal clock. They won't integrate; as they told you; with PayPal that tightly.

But, from what you're wanting to do; you don't need that. Just attach the files to your auto-responders.. use the aWeber/PayPal email parsing integration they have and you're right as rain.

Incidentally, is there a way to prevent people from signing up to the email autoresponder w/o paying? I want to allow signups *only* from paypal emails, as shown in the video The Schwa posted.

You should be able to get a custom IPN solution to work w/ GetResponse API.

It would flow like:

Pay - IPN - Add to GR via API
Cancel - IPN - Remove via GR API

Problem w/ this, anyone could join/rejoin if they know the GR account name. Which is easy to find...

Better solution: A private blog. If they cancel, blog deletes their access. This would also allow people past content if you want or only access to current content.

I think I don't want this solution because I want everyone to get the newest content each N days. That way not everyone gets the same content all the time. An autoresponder seemed like a natural approach.

I think there is an "autoresponder blog" that will do that. Saw someone talking on the forum about it.
