God, I loved Glasgow. It's the only place I've ever been where people who say, "Good morning!" sound like they're saying, "I'm gonna cut your throat, you slimy little *******!".

I seriously hate sounding like a PayPal employee; but they only charge 2.9% + .30 per transaction. AND they lower that according to your monthly volume. Where can you find cheaper than that??

pfft.. ClickBank charges a whopping 7.5% per transaction

Good grief. Do you people even KNOW how much (little) PayPal charges per transaction? They're one of the cheapest processors around. I pay 2.9% + $0.50 per trans. Where else could I, as a small business person, get that kind of rate?

Not from my bank, that's for damned sure. And not from any of the other major online processors.

They charge a lot less than my bank processor.

My bank processor charges a minimum of $39.95 per month whether or not you make a sale. Plus, their fees. Some even charge you if you close your account.

    That is a bummer.

So, Paypal is still the best.

I think the one thing that you're missing here is that you're all comparing rates for internet based transactions, which are significantly higher than non-internet based transactions. What PayPal is promoting here is paying for groceries with your PayPal account. That's a non-internet based transaction and there's no way that stores are going to pay twice the going rate so they can accept PayPal. Many retail stores won't accept AMEX because the processing rates are higher.

We run a retail shop and pay less than 2% with a very low volume of transactions and less than .07 cents per transactions. Notice the point. That's 0.07 cents, that 7/100ths of a cent per transaction.

That's a big difference compared to PayPal's rates for small retail businesses.

Actually, (more than likely), what you're seeing in the video is the flip side of what you're talking about; as the video doesn't focus on the merchant but rather the consumer.

As a brick & mortar business; you'd simply be accepting MasterCard, (basically how I've paid for everything over the past 8yrs). You'd actually save more money by persuading those consumers, (the ones with PayPal MasterCard debit cards), to use the debit card option; as its cheaper for the merchant.

What I envision PayPal pursuing is a transaction model that prompts for a different type of verification rather than that of the plastic card, itself. You see in the video, (albeit it be a little scary), dude pressing his thumb print to purchase the movie ticket(s).

Either way; this is the age of monopolies. Google, Cisco, 3Com, PayPal, Comcast, Time Warner, Wells Fargo... we'll see more of the same and much more PayPal, soon.

I have no problems with PayPal's transaction costs, but I do wish PayPal was regulated as a bank which I'm sure they will be in the future. Now if only eBay would lower their fee's a little bit, I'd be one happy man.
