For Video Blogging and interviewing, can anyone recommend a 3 point lighting system that is good for beginners? I would like a quality system however, this is my first time buying lights (key , fill and head) thanks for reading Mike |

It's all in how much you want to spend, how long you're going to keep them, what quality level you want. This is a good entry-level system for about $1400: Lowel | DP3 Jr Kit | DPT-93Z | B&H Photo Video 'Entry-level' means having the things you need to work with, but not going overboard on accessories or pro-quality equipment. You can probably find 2- or 3-light kits for $300 or so, but you have to be handy enough to fabricate what you don't get in the kit -- diffusers, barndoors, etc. |

This system for under $600 looks promising: Smith-Victor | SL270 3 Light Video Interview Kit | 401409 | B&H |

Get 2 of these and any cheap little light to put above as a hair light and you'll be in business: ($139+s&h for 1) I've got this, was extremely impressed with how sturdy they are. I'm sure his other lights in his storefront are good too, but I have this one specifically, and it's surprising how well just ONE of them does. If you're just getting started and want to save $$, I'd just get one and add a couple of other lights in the room pointing indirectly at the target, you can always get more later. I'm guessing you could use the money saved for other things, ay? |

Thanks - I think that is a good idea Tim - yes I have seen several kits out there and as someone starting out your idea makes sense...especially as this is a new endeavor. Again - thanks for the responses. Mike |

Take a look at ebay. I found some awesome deals on lighting kits that I've used for years now. |

I was looking on youtube for lighting quite a while back and there are quite a few videos to help you. They even show how to make a quality set of do it yourself (DIY) lights using construction lights. I just dis a search and they still have good videos. Use "DIY" in your search. i.e. "diy 3 point video lighting" youtube is great for leaning about a lot of video and audio techniques. You can make your own video lighting, high end mic, learn green screen etc. YouTube Rocks! |
