Default For Affiliates: Social Media Marketing Guide from Amazon (You DO get paid for Twitter Links)

I just blogged this and thought I would share it here too, as there is some important info for affiliates that do social marketing on Twitter and other platforms.

A controversial story came out in July about the fact that Amazon had supposedly refused to pay an affiliate his commission on affiliate links placed on Twitter and there was some speculation that using URL shorteners with Amazon could also be a problem.

The original story came from Search Engine Journal
No Precedence For Social Media – Amazon Hangs Us Out To Dry

There was a post about it here at the Warrior Forum too.
If You Twitter Affiliate Links - Amazon Won’t Pay

Today Amazon clarifies their stance on social marketing, twitter marketing and URL shorteners, saying they are all fine to use, if used within Amazon’s guidelines.

The piece was written as a GUIDE to social media marketing for affiliates and Amazon lays out the ground rules that they assume will also be acceptable for most other affiliate programs, although you should always check each program’s TOS.

Here it is from SearchEngine Journal:
Social Media Affiliate Marketing Guide 101 – With Amazon

Oh gee ... More spam for twitter what fun... Personally I think it would have been better if they did block them from twitter.

I agree with them not using URL shortners because Amazon will want people to see they are clicking through to amazon not another site. For those who dont know that url shortners hide the affiliate link and reduce it in size may click a link and be directed somwhere else.

I respect Amazon for this decision, they are focusing more on their customers than the cash they make

Please read the sig file rules
