Super Important Article Writing & Submission Questions We Should Know!

I have a few questions about article writing and article submission and would really appreciate your input please...

1) One of the main reasons to post articles to article directories is to gain link juice from one way back links so as to boost your site in the serps.
What percentage of your traffic is from people clicking a link in your articles resource box as opposed to organic search engine traffic gained by having backlinks as a result of the articles you submitted to directories?

2) Some people say the ONLY reason to write and submit articles to directories is for back links and to hell with trying to get traffic directly from someone clicking on the link in your resource box because that traffic will be insignificant. Obviously one of the huge advantages for writing and posting NON-related-to-the-subject-matter-of-your-site articles is because its so much easier to write about anything as opposed to having to write an article about a specific subject matter (like if your site was about women shoes then your articles for the directories would also be about womens shoes).
Are the articles you submit to article directories ALWAYS related to the subject matter of the site you are linking back to in your resource box regardless of how boring the subject matter is? Or do you submit easy to write articles about subjects totally unrelated to the subject matter of your site because your only interest is to get the back link?

3)
Some people say you should write 3 original articles about the same subject - Then submit the 1st article to Ezinearticles.com - Then submit the 2nd article to about 10 2nd tier article directories - Then take the 3rd article and spin it and submit it to all the other 600+ 3rd tier article directories.
Is this how you do it? If so; what are the 10 most important 2nd tier article directories you submit to in order of importance. If that isn't how you do it, what criteria do you use when deciding which article directories to submit to?

4)
Some people say to carefully and slowly submit your articles to article directories over a period of time (like maybe only two per day) to avoid a penalty from Google. Others say thats BS and blast out as many articles as fast as possible thus gaining hundreds of back links within a couple days.
Which way works for you? If you submit your articles slowly - then how many articles do you submit per day and to how many directories? If you blast them out all at once, how long have you been doing that and have you ever been penalized by Google?

5) If your 20 page niche site is targeting long-tail low-competition 'buyer ready' keyword phrases only, how many original articles would you write and how many directories would you submit your original articles to, and how many spun versions of that article would you submit, and to how many directories do you submit the spun content?

6)
Some say that you should ALWAYS change the keywords and anchor text in your resource box for each article you submit.
Is that what you do?

7) Who do you feel has the best most up to date 'How To' information on article writing and article submission?

Thanks for your input.
Steve
