Default I just got an offer for a domain name. What are your thoughts?

I just got an email from SEDO stating there was an offer for a domain name I must have listed with them a few years ago. The domain is http://www.WeightLossCoach.org

The offer was $300 and I end up with $250 after fees.

Any suggestions here.

Mo

That's not a bad deal.

especially because I can add a prefix or suffix and get it for $7.

That's not a bad offer but I have added a couple thousand to the price of domains in the past just by throwing up some more content and driving some traffic to it. If you can make some revenue that always boosts the price too.

Eg. one site I had would have gained almost nothing from the domain at all but with a wordpress blog, some articles, and a couple of low ball affiliate sales it made $2.5k

If you don't have time for all that though take the money

I just did a little bit of research.

Alexa: Not in top 100,000,000
Compete: No Records

Yahoo, Bing, Google: No Content links

So for what is coming with the website is pretty much only the domain name. So that price seems exceptional.

I agree with Chris. If you were to throw some content on there even in word press would increase the value substantial. This would give you negotiating power and allow you to gauge what the other company is willing to pay for this name.

You do not know what they intend to do with the site and how much it depends on acquiring this name.

For example,

If the company is looking to launch a multi-million dollar company and they are sold on this name their budget may be pleasingly high. If you were to have some content and counter offer at their first offer with a highball offer to their lowball you may be surprised at what they will offer.

Assuming that it has no or little traffic seems like quite a good deal to me.

I agree. It's a good deal, especially for a .org.

I'd take it and run. If the buyer has the .com already I don't see much point in developing it.

Looks like a good deal to me. It sounds like a branding type of domain anyways, but it would be better to brand with the .com as they would end up going to that anyway. I would take the offer.

If you are feeling like gambling a little bit, you can try to up the offer a bit. I know I did that in the past when they started with an offer of $400. I responded with $1,000. They responded with $600 and I made a firm Counter of $700.

This had no content, and it was just the domain. .com at that. It wasn't even a keyword domain, but it could have been branded appropriately.

So if you feel like chancing it you might be able to get a bit more. I have also had this method backfire on me as well, so you can decide whether or not you really want to keep it or not, and make your decision from there.

Hope that helps.

Not bad! Glurk.com says it's worth $24. Dnscoop is $138.

Hey Mo,

Yeah, I'd sell it to them if you don't have plans for it. It's a good price for a domain name.

Sounds like extra money laying around to me, especiall since you forgot about it sitting there for a couple of years.

You inspired me. I think I will put some names up at Sedo.

To get certified they ask for a credit card number. Is it safe to give your credit card there?

sedo.com is a safe site. I've dealt with them in the past and still get their newsletter, and have been a long-time subscriber

Looks good to me. If you've some big plans of marketing weight loss products, I think you'll make fortune of it. The only important would be your internet marketing approach.

I would suggest going for it.

I got one recently also from Sedo .... The transaction went very smoothly. Of course I would take it. It's a lot more than you paid for it and probably a lot more than you've made from it. Grab the money. As many domains as I have on Sedo, I've only had that one sale ... I didn't hesitate.

The term "weight loss coach" gets 1600 EXACT searches per month in Google and only 165,000 competing results. I have to disagree with accepting only $250... this is a really good domain name in a really great niche. A domain like this can easily make you $250 per month if you create a nice squeeze page or CPA offer on the domain. Personally, I'd expect to get a minimum of $1500 for this domain name.

Now that you have an offer, this would be a perfect domain to send through the auction process at Sedo, where it gets posted for others to bid on over the next 7 days. I'm willing to bet you'd get at least double the $250 by doing that.

$300 isn't enough. Agreed with the few above who say you can get more.

I haven't really studied what sells on Sedo very much but used to go look occasionally. My feelings about this domain is that I would never pay $1500 for a 3-word domain or a .org in the weight loss niche.

I agree -- I wouldn't either. But there are LOTS of prospects who would.
