do you find it easier to do well with adsense over affiliate sales?

My thinking is that when people feel that they are being sold something, they tend to get defensive, however if you offer information for free, and have some relevant google ads, you will get a few clicks.

On average, do you think its easier to do well with affiliate products, or adsense? Notice i say easier, and not 'better'

Cheers

Affiliate deals have always made me way more money than adsense.

Adsense is the monetization of last resort for me.

In some niches, with enough traffic you can do well with adsense. But with affiliates you do not need as much traffic to make the same or more money.

But you said easier, well copy and paste of some javascript one time has to be the easiest way ever. I don't think you are going to get easier than adsense or chitika for that reason!

OK you can make more as an aff. The problem is that many companies will set the pay out real high. Selling is max important because you make money when people buy product so you have to convince your users to hit the BUY button. This skill is called writing killer copy. For adsense all you need is traffic. Being an aff takes more effort to gain your success.

I would definitely go with Affiliates. However, you need to make sure you are joining quality link programs. Adsense pays only pennies per click. Affiliate programs can really make you money a lot faster.

    Easier to do well?
It would be nice to know how would we define "doing well".
So, we are back to "better" aspect instead of "easier", right? lol

Anyway, AdSense is easier to implement but more optimization needs some aditional knowledge, too.
With affiliate stuff you have much more choice of selecting appropriate network and product and thus you need to get familiar with each of them.
But once you find your "golden goose" it can brings you much more than AdSense.

I would have to Adsense simply because a person is more inclined to click on something and continue to get info than to purchase right away, but as we all know adsense is somewhat affiliate marketing because without converting clicks you will get dropped anyway.

      Hope that helped

I make more money with adsense than any affiliate products. In order to get paid as an affiliate, people have to buy - with adsense, all they need to do is click. I make $200 per week with my adsense steadily for the past few months, I barely make 50 per week with my affiliate sales. I think XFactor is proof of how well you can do with adsense

Although I earn more affiliate commission than adsense at the moment, Adsense is my first love. I'm building niche websites so it does take time to build my real estate. But I like the thought of waking up in the morning with money being made from my sites. It's literally making money while I sleep.

Right now I am torn between going the mass sites with the intent to have fingers out there or focus on something that i have passion for. It seems like fingers out there would be good for adsense but a strong site would build the peoples trust to buy instead of click.......does that make sense coming from a noob?

@Lionel - Adsense sites work better when the visitor can't wait to leave and they happen to choose to escape via your ads If you have a passion for a subject then you ought to be able to gather an engaged audience who is interested in what you have to say, then you can effectively recomment affiliate offers.

@bellabee making $200 per week with adsense, that's fine and I know some people love it, but look around, there are plenty of affiliate offers that pay $200 commission - some even ongoing. How many clicks does it take to make $200 via adsense each week? Get only 100 clicks a day with a good converting affiliate scheme and you can make far more than the pennies adsense normally pays out. That's not all niches, of course. If you are not sure it doesn't hurt to test both.

I am doing both adsense and affiliate marketing, but do far I have made more money with adsense.

Adsense provides a nice passive income while it takes a bit longer to earn from affiliate products because of the sales funnel (visitors to your site, getting them on your list, converting...)

That's odd to me because I would say affiliate commissions are far more passive.

Traffic->Site->Adsense->$ = you have to keep sending traffic to make the adsense clicks

Traffic->Site->Affiliate->$ recurring = one sale, one time, keep getting paid while the customer stays part of the continuity

    I know which I prefer

And if you are getting traffic to a site, and people are clicking adsense, how much additional work is it to at least test some affiliate offers?

When I was looking to buy a guitar I found a brilliant site about what should buy, how to choose, and they only had adsense on there so even though I took their recommendation I had to buy through a different site. This writer educated me but lost out on hundreds of dollars commission that I would have been HAPPY for him to get. Craziness.

Readers are often grateful when you tell them where you can buy the product you have written about. If you write a about a book it just makes sense to link to Amazon, right?

I have noticed that people are not buying the first time they visit a site, they will more likely just browse around and click a link (Adsense). The hard part is to get them on your list.Once they are on your list the marketing begins. You need to send them useful information and then recommend your affiliate products as a solution to their problems, and this takes time.

Off course I would recommend products that pays me recurring commissions.

All of my adsense sites are product based, so they include affiliate links to the specific products as well. I still make more money with adsense than I do with the product sales. I do have a few sites that are strictly affiliate products (primarily clickbank stuff) and the conversion rates are are so low, that even my lowest performing adsense site out performs them day after day.

I'd love to be a super star at both, but as it stands right now, Adsense pays my rent every month with little to no work on my end. I'm ramping up my affiliate efforts though - we'll see how it goes
