Backlinks: Google and Yahoo - inconsistent - can someone explain?

First, I'm using domain-pop's backlink checker and it's showing 200+ backlinks indexed by yahoo, yet only 1 by google.

Any idea why?

    Yeah that is a good question. This is how its been for as long as I can remember. Yahoo is the most reliable way to check backlinks, don't worry about google not turning up many.

    There are many theories on why Google handles it this way. I'd love to hear what people think about this?

    Google knows about those other links, but for whatever reason just shows a fraction.

      I agree using Yahoo to find out the actual incoming links the website have.

      Why Google do not show the actual links, is because they consider them as irrelevant, and those that show up are the ones Google takes into consideration.

    There is no software or no website that is going to show you all backlinks to a website and not one of them will ever be correct because the fact is they would have to crawl billions of websites every single second of every single day.

    I don't think that those that aren't showing up are being consider irrevelant by google, in fact I've watched many good backlinks from high pr sites come in and out of google's backlink index for my sites (even though those pages were not falling in and out of google's index).
