Default Brand New Site - Monetize it Or Not?

I have a brand new site that is climbing up slowly in SERPS . I don't show any Adsense or affiliate ads on it.

Should I monetize it now or wait patiently until it has got the first page of Google for my terms?

Kinda paranoid that Google rank new sites with ads lower in serps.

Thanks

I've heard different opinions. If you get natural traffic you might wait some more, and do moe content building and backlink building.

You can monetize only the pages that have been indexed already. It's a good sign if the site is climbing, means you're out of the google sandbox.

If you want the traffic from PPC, don't wait - monetize now.

I've never had any problem with this. Just don't go crazy linking to questionable sites and you should be okay, especially if you use Adsense.

I think it depends on the niche you're in.. I've been in some niches where it's frowned upon to show ads (or even suggest that something might be making money), but for most I would say just go for it you may aswell start making cash today instead of waiting around.

@dizen:

If you are planning to monetize your site, start as soon as you build it. There is no penalthy for sites that have any kind of ads on. Because monetization is based on testing and you should be testing your monetization methods as the site grows and your traffic increases.

My opinion is slightly different in so much as to say that when you first start off you'll have virtually zero traffic and not enough serious site visitors to give you any kind of meaningful CTR and profits.
I'm inclined to say you should get the content and the traffic really firing first and then go for the monetization,.. otherwise what's the point? You just end up with a site/blog that probably looks a little tacky with Adsense and/or banner ads on it but no real substantial content as such (I suggest that time and experience creates such valuable content...it evolves with you, nad your visitors will sense that!).

Site/blog visitors are getting more and more savvy and have less time to spend on webpages. Therefore if you present a site that contains unnecessary and perhaps redundant ad links then you could deterr some visitors that may not like that and may not return on another occassion. They will however return for content and/or to see how your blog/site is progressing later.

Take my blog over at RussRave.com. It's been going for almost 3 months now and I'm getting around 70 unique visitors a day. Of those visitors only 25% spend more than 30 seconds on the site which means realistically that I have about 18 people a day that could be considered "serious" visitors. Trying to monetize with that kind of traffic is pointless and so I'm not featuring banners and adsense and such. I'll wait until the serious traffic is a lot higher and in the meantime keep working to build content and readership. It's early days yet,.. and being consistant is SO hard. Statistics show (as featured in Darren Rowse's recent blog survery of over 5,000 bloggers) that over 50% of bloggers give up between the 3 month and 6 month mark,.. and another 25% give up between the 6month and 12 month mark (%'s approximated). That's a major difference between the successful and the unsuccessful. You first have to build a solid house before you can live in it!
I can't see the point of cluttering up my blog with adsense all to achieve astounding Adsense revenues of 18cents every couple of days (if lucky),.. it's not even worth the time checking stats for that!

I would never advise to have ads on websites that are not completely optimized. Atleast give it some time to get good rankings in Search engines.

I'd argue that you shouldn't monetize your personal blog anyway!

I launched a blog a couple of weeks back and submitted 5 articles the same day to eza.

within 5 hours that new site had earned $21 now am I glad I monetize my blogs from day 1...you bet I am

I wonder what the likes of John Chow and Yaro Starak would say to that argument?
