It's a sad situation when a marketing noob (we were all one once) gets stung purchasing the "next big thing". It happens to all of us at some point and rather than it be a negative, turn it into a positive and learn from it.
Don't just say "all marketers are scammers" because while a lot are, you can really learn things from the true idea marketers. You will learn to see the signs as we all have. I would quite gladly shell out $10K if it went to the right person, and yet there are times when I would refuse to pay $7 simply because of who it was going to. $7 isn't going to dent my bankroll but i just know it's wasted money. In time you will develop that sixth sense yourself. Anyway, I digress, back on topic. Most noobs try to overthink or overcomplicate ideas, more get information overload and even more get bored before ever taking action. If you ask a successful internet marketer how they got started you will invariably hear that they either got a guiding hand from someone in the know, or they started off slow and built up. This second practise is the one I always advocate. I started in online marketing many years ago, back when the only thing the internet was really used for was for trading pornographic images. If you wanted to make money back then you had a choice of porn or nothing. Thankfully the development of the internet has allowed us a great deal of freedom to market exactly how we want to. But with this freedom comes choice, and with choice comes confusion. Imagine you have a hundred ideas, attempting to get them into some sort of order in an effort to make some good money is a difficult task. Throw the following words into a blender seperately:
To get success, you have to want it. Once the porn business became too competitive, I realised things had to change, but I couldn't get my thoughts and ideas in any semblence of order so I learned quickly (and expensively) that I had to start at the bottom, back to basics so to speak. All great ideas are spun from the most very basic ideas. Yes that's true. and this works out great for you because you already know the basics right? Personally, I was one of the pioneers of online arbitrage betting and made a lot of money before bookies got wise to it. The simple idea was to find a bet I couldn't lose on. It turned out that it was very easy to find them. The point of the thread then? Well for anyone new to the business, don't underestimate the power of thinking basic. Use an idea, then build and develop from there. Ok how about an idea to get you started? Trading skillsets. There are thousands of people out there who are willing to pay someone a lot of money to get something done for them. A website, a program, or simply just to write a unique article. You may also know there are many thousands of people out there who are more than happy to provide these services. Doing them yourself rarely pays off big time simply due to the amount of man hours you need to put in. Plus you might not have the necessary skills to complete the project. Maybe you don't know programming, or your first language isn't English. All you really need to do is put the buyers in contact with the sellers, take your cut and bang! you have made a profit! You have done nothing more than negotiate the terms, someone else is doing the work and you are free to move on to another buyer. It's all a matter of how many you could get through in a day. What you are going to be wanting to be doing is visiting the places where people are willing to pay that little bit extra to get a good job done. Check out forums and places that specialise in outsourcing like rentacoder. Try to find a job which seems tricky (not much interest in it) or cheap (at least until you have built up a little respect) then head over to somewhere where the prices are not high (for example digitalpoint forums) and see if someone matches your requirements. Negotiations between the two parties will get easier in time and you should be able to get a good percentage of the fee. Of course you act as the intermediary, as far as the buyer is concerned, you are doing the work. Don't transfer the money to the seller until the buyer is absolutely happy with the work. All ideas start out as something small and grow into what hopefully becomes an income. I did this exact thing a number of years ago, the programmer I used was so good (and happy with the regular work) that I hired him full time and found the jobs for him. Start off small and refine, test and refine again until you have it perfect. In time, the ideas come and you can monetise them easily. |

Why do people make assumptions what other people think? Why do so many people start making a little bit of money then suddenly feel the need to become expert marketers qualified to teach?

My assumptions are based on more than mere perceived notions on my part however, I have spent years teaching people (and learning more than my fair share) and learning their of train of thoughts, people working from the ground, up. The last I saw there was no internet qualification to teach and in essence that makes it difficult to define the line between amateur/expert. In my own opinion, there are no such people as experts in this field simply because of the rate of change, you can never say you know everything because at least a hundred things change on a daily basis. I would return the question to you in part. Why do you make assumptions on what perception of myself I have. Of course you have me completely wrong, but why would you assume this? | |
