Default Would this put you off buying something.....

Hey All

Hope your having a great Sunday!

I'm shortly lauching my minisite tutorial video series, but I am forcing the customer to take a trail before they pay.

The only option is for a customer to grab a trial of 3 days where they can access the first 6 videos in the series, paypal will then automatically charge them a fee after the end of this 3 days where they will then be able to access the remaining videos in the course.

My question is... if you wanted the videos in the first place and were willing to purchase straight away for instant access, would you be put off getting on board if you had to take the trial and wouldnt be able to get into the meat of the course until after the 3 days had ended?

Would be interested in hearing your thoughts on this, to me the positives outweighed the negatives.

Thanks in advance

Darren

Hi Darren,

My first thought was that it wouldn't bother me... then I thought about it a little more.

If I were trying to purchase on friday evening, knowing that I had the entire weekend to make progress on your course... and also knowing that once monday comes I will have very little time due to the full-time job, and I was told that I couldn't access the full course for 3 days...

That would bother me, because effectively it pushes me back another week (again, assuming I'm going to have very little time during the week and lots of time on the weekend.)

I thought about this, because I just bought a course this weekend, and part of that was knowing I'd have some free time to get into it...

Not sure if it would completely stop me from purchasing. If I were on the fence, however, it might cause me to wait until mid-week while I do more research and thinking about whether or not I really wanted it.

Good luck!

You should test it both ways to see what works best for your product. However, I'd just as soon buy it outright. That's just my preference.

Make sure your initial videos will absolutely overdeliver - that's your selling point, give away some secrets and leave them craving for more, tell them there's way more where this came from. Make promises and keep them. Overkeepthem. Test 3 days vs 7 days.

I know I would buy outright too, but there have been many products and courses that I DID buy outright that I wouldnt have if I had taken the trail. Due to this I'm more than willing to stand by my product with that in mind.

Thats a good point, but I dont want the course to be the next thing they jump on without committing, so If them having to wait a few days before committing shouldnt be a big issue, but certainly food for thought.

The initial videos do give them a big basis of the rest of the site. I would really worry about 7 days, as the initial videos are only about 30mins (total) and they could lose interest in the 7 days

Darren,

If the trial videos allow the customer to create a working website then a trial period may help with conversions.

If the trial period videos leave the customer hanging it may cause some buyers' remorse as they search for other alternatives.

Me? I want the goods ASAP unless the time frame allotted for the learning curve exceeds the time frame for the trial period.

Nothing I hate more than running for the door only to find it locked.

Hey Joe,

Good point on the locked door.

Certainly will be testing....

Not sure what you mean by having a working website after the oly the trial, can I grant you access so you can let me have your thoughts on whether we achieved this.

I see you do 3D stuff & animation, we do that too ;o)

I like getting my stuff all in one go, I don't like waiting around for bits and pieces being available gradually (like with some memberships I bought before). So yeah, it would put me off.

Thanks,

Darren,

You know...we go WAY back (to 2007 )

And your cutting edge, genius designs are now the INDUSTRY BENCHMARK which all others try to imitate.

Well done, dude. That's Awesome!

But...

As forced continuity goes...having to take a TRAIL...well, it goes against the grain.

I'd love a free trial...of course...but I'm a city person...I DON'T TAKE TRAILS!

Don't exclude me just because I don't feel at one with nature, Darren!

Hi Darren, I think that it is a good marketing strategy.. There are so many ebooks, training courses, etc, etc. I think that the prudent person who has probably bought a load of training materials would welcome the trial offer.
Just thoughts off the top of my head.

If I want a product I want it NOW, not three days from now. Having to wait would definitely turn me off. I'd go look for another product I could buy when I'm looking for it, not three days later.
Just my opinion.

For me it would be off-putting. I prefer to have a course delivered in total so that I can read ( or view) it right through and then go back and study it thoroughly.
I'm wondering, what are the advantages in a part delivery anyway?

Wishing the best in your launch whichever way you choose to present it.

Hi Darren,

I'd want the course immediately. You're confident that it delivers and if the customer doesn't agree he/she/it gets a refund.

Why make the customer (and your bank account) wait?

Gimme the goods and gimme 'em now!

Kevin

PS- One way to solve this question is to ask your buyers what you've asked us.

It would be annoying. If I wanted an entire series (btw I don't particular care for video series, I'd rather read than be forced to listen at a certain rate) -- then I would want it all up front.

It might get me a bit annoyed, and if it was something I really needed, I'd probably see if I could find an equivalent first that gave me full access up front.
