How is Domain I Don't Own Registered To Me?

I recently sold a domain on Flippa(Sitepoint). Both the sale and the transfer were completed in July.

The domain was originally registered with me at 1and1. The buyer had the domain transferred to his GoDaddy account.

Strangely enough, when I pull the domain with BetterWhoIs, all of the information is still attributed to me, even though I don't own it anymore.

Anyone know why this is? And how can I get it fixed?

    It seems that BetterWhois is not updating their records often.

      I'm kinda wondering if it works like a phone book listing. If someone closes their Mexican resteraunt and disconnects their phone, then someone else secures that phone number, the listing in the phone book will be to the Mexican resteraunt until the new edition is issued.

      Maybe the registrant info stays the same for a year or something? Or till it renews?

        I'm wondering about this too.

        I have a client who is desperately trying to switch registrars and his whois record still shows 1and1 as the registrar. Anyone know if it's a problem with 1and1?

          I called Godaddy, and they said that the domain was indeed in the new buyer's account, but that the original WhoIs info was on there as well. They said that they could not change the information themselves...that I had to contact the buyer and ask him to change it.

          They also said that it's an issue for him though, becaues ICANN requires you to keep accurate info in your registration, and if they find out they could pull his domain name from him.

          Crazy.

          Apparently though, he just needs to update that info on his end in his domain control panel at GoDaddy.
