i hear a lot of people talking about keyword research and many people sya the external google keyword tool is all you need to do your research.
so my question is this.... what criteria do you look for? I.E. i can find a keyword with 5,000 searches per month and "low" advertiser competition. does that automatically make it a good keyword to base a website around? any other things i should look for? thanks, Matrix |

Any good keyword is a good thing. Buying keywords are better, but rare as hen's teeth.
Anything getting 5000 searches a month and less than a few thousand exact results is worth investigating |

I am by no means an expert, but generally, anything above 500/month is worth looking into.
The higher you go, obviously, the more competition. Though there are certainly low searched keywords with huge competition simply because of the commercial intent behind them. When you assess a keyword, you need to be 90% sure you can get in at least the top 10 in google for it. From what I've read, anything below 100,000 competition with "exact" matches is fairly easy to crack. Then you can check the laser targeted traffic by using: "search term here" intitle:"search term here" From experience, it's very easy to dominate if that produces less than 40,000 competition. Of course, there is far far more to it and far far more variables involved, so use the above as a very very loose guideline. One thing that can make a huge difference is WHO is in the top 10. If you find the big players at the top (amazon etc), consider another approach. Again, so many variables it's hard to give exact guidelines on what you should be looking for or how to approach a certain term. I tend to target 1000+/month global searches, with less than 100,000 "exact" competitors, and less than 50,000 targeted:"competitors" with little or no BIG players. Hope that helps. |
