Hey Warriors,

What's your thoughts on these virtual spokespeople walking out from the side of your computer screen and greeting you / your visitors?

Has anyone done any testing?

Do they provide value?

Let me know

and keep Rockin!!!

Annoying unless the girl is really hot. And that's of interest once, then it's back to annoying.

They're annoying ...but if it's a scantily clad female she'll hold my attention for an extra five seconds...maybe.

    Hi Sean,

I have never tested them myself, but if I see
one I just close it down right away as soon
    as it loads.

    Thats just me!

    Take Care,

    Michael Silvester

It was "cool" the first time I saw it. Now it is just not really necessary.

I have not tested, but for me personally I am not persuaded to buy a product just because someone is walking around on the web page.

Product is good then I buy.

I guess testing is the key. Each market is probably different.

To me it says advertising right from the get go. They want my money.

I tend to avoid ALL of the *annoying* factors.

I dont put anything on my sites that I wouldnt want to see on someone elses site.

No popups on exit, no virtual spokespeople, no annoying autoplay mp3's.

If you make it a point to avoid gimmicks, you have to focus on delivery and quality. In the long run, this will make you one hell of a more efficient marketer.

I generally keep the audio turned off on my computer and only turn it on when I plan to listen or watch something.

Part of the reason I began keeping the audio off was annoying background music on websites, annoying audio on website ads, annoying video spokespeople that step out from the side of the page, etc.

So, I've taken charge of the audio on my computer and only turn it on when I want to listen to something.

It used to be that I'd click away when one of those video spokespeople came on, but now I don't hear them, so they are easier to ignore, unless they are blocking text I am trying to read.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

Your probably asking the worst crowd in the world
    to give you feedback.

From my experience they usually don't represent
    the "Real" market.

No offense, but just being honest.

Hey Daniel, no offense taken! This is Exactly the right crowd for the question!

I personally don't think they offer anything to a site but I learned a long time ago...it's not always about what I like and don't like...it's what the market wants/ likes that makes a difference.

So....with so many Internet Marketers.....I thought it would be good to see if anyone has had any sort of results, insight from users etc.

Thanks for the feedback! I think my decision to steer clear of inserting one of these Hotties on my site has been made.

Although the interviewing process was quite fun....:p

I think it was Josh Anderson here on the forum that has a really cool one where he walks out from behind his header and then sits on it and talks to you.

I think that might not be as annoying since it is part of the header.

We are accustom to seeing certain graphics on a page like the header but having a moving image slide into or onto the window like a pop-up disrupts our natural viewing.

Wonder if Josh would be willing to share some of his numbers with his effect.

I've tested this for about 6 hours once...

I had to remove it right away, so many pages got shut down that day. In the spirit of testing, I was going to do a 7 day test, it wasn't worth it.

    Peace

Be wary of opinions of whether these work or not. Blanket statements hide the many factors that will determine if this will work for you or not. (Model, Message, Market, Timing, Demographics, etc). All those things have be tested to get a good data set.

Test it for yourself, see if it improves conversions. Trust your own data.

People's personal opinions from the point of a consumer are not going to give much value, here. All that matters is, does it help your conversions? I see it on a fair amount of product offers so I figure it must help, at least in some niches. Guess you would need to find out from somebody that has tested.

My own consumer-side take is that these video spokespeople can add value to a page or annoy the visitor into leaving. It boils down to execution.

If all you are going to do is walk in from the side and instruct me to read the page and hit the buy button, it doesn't add any value for me.

Doing this kind of stuff just because you can falls into the same category as spinning logos or dancing hamsters (sorry, Reilly).

On the other hand, I remember seeing a squeeze page that started like any other with a video embedded. After a few seconds, the video paused and the spokesperson walked out from behind it. They stood in front of the paused video and talked to me about what I would get in return for opting in - in plain language, not the market-speak that was in the video.

That one caught and kept my attention - and got the opt-in. Too bad the product wasn't up to the same standard as the squeeze page. But that's another story.

In a nutshell, my take is that this is another tool in the toolbox. One person can take a knife and a piece of wood and create art, another can take the same knife and piece of wood and create a pile of shavings.

There are two things that always work to get rid of something you don't like: BACK and CLOSE.

Most people figure this out pretty quick, so if they don't know how to get rid of the annoying part on a page, they'll use one of those to dump the whole page.

Again, it depends on the niche. For IMers it may not be a big deal because we have seen it, but for other niches, it can be super effective. The only way to confirm it would be to test it.
