Turn your email address into multiple

Here's a tip that I learned recently and i'm sure you guys will find it useful.

Many of use create multiple emails for whatever purpose... (posting on classifieds, spam, etc.)

We want them easy to remember so we make them similar different but add numbers at the end like:

warrior1@gmail
warrior2@gmail
warrior3@gmail
etc

This is time consuming and most of these emails forward to one "main" account anyway. It's also impossible to keep track of how many unnecessary emails that we have.

Now you don't have to do that anymore...

Whenever you need a new email simply put a "+1" at the end of the same email.

For example:

warrior+1@gmail
warrior+2@gmail
warrior+3@gmail
etc

Basically if you sent an email to warrior+99@gmail.com, it will end up at warrior@gmail.com

Websites consider these as different emails but they will all be forwarded to the original warrior@gmail email. I have not used it past +99 so i'm not sure where the capped number is.

Go ahead and send at test email to yourself!

Nice share! Now does this work for only free email addresses or would this work for an email from your domain name i.e. you+1@yourdomain.com

I'm pretty sure you can use any string after the +...

Yep! sure can. You can then go into settings >> filters and send the emails sent to email+id@gmail.com to a label/folder.

    Gotta love gmail!

Good share for those that did not know about this little tweak with gmail.

for myself as a web developer this is going to be really useful when testing an application that allows only unique email addresses in teh system, better than inputting a bogus email address like adfsfa2343214rwefw@gmail.com :p

        Sounds great!

I use gmail but I mostly use my domain name email addresses.

Has anyone found out how to do this with a domain name?

          awesome tip indeed.

try the same format with the domain emails.

if it doesn't work, then it doesn't work. no harm, no foul.

It's dependant on the mail server running on your system. Qmail can be configured to support a variation of this - foo-bar@domain.com I think. (- instead of +) but it's been a while since I played with it. Best chat with your domain hosting sysadmin/support person. If it's not 'on', it might be a piece of functionality they can enable.
