Default whats the big deal about article rewriting?

ok, so hopefully i understand this right.

the idea is to write an article and submit it to like 1000 directories. ok i get that part. but then why do people like to have the article rewrote(in the article submission sense, i understand using it for opt-in forms)

do you write an article and and "spin" that article a 1000 times and submit each spun article to a directory?

or

do you write an article and submit then spin that article again and sublit it again

The reason to rewrite/spin articles is that google doesn't like duplicate content, so when you rewrite you give yourself more chances to rank for different search terms. Also rewrite your article titles, not just the article text.

Duplicate Content is a Myth and this is NOT the reason to spin articles...

Strangely enough I always felt duplicate content was also a myth, just going over to read that page now :-)
