i have found a micro niche and some keywords that i think i can start my im venture in.
i was just wondering what are the chances of me reaching page one for the general niche when there are 18 million search results for it. on page one, there are no affiliate sites, just wiki, tomson local, bussiness directories, etc. but the main niche get 47,000 global searches a month as mentioned i am new so this would be my first project. i think my main income would come from amazon affilate clicks and adsense. havent found much on clickbank for this niche. (is this a bad thing?) What would i do to get to page one with so many results. PS. i have searched the forum and got some ideas, i would just like some expert advise on what steps you guys go through to get to page 1. |

I don't know what niche you're in, but usually when there is no competition, that's a bad sign. If no one is selling in that niche, it usually means that there is no money to be made in that niche.
Ad sense won't give you huge commissions either. And you say, 18,000,000 results? That's a lot. Try to put your keywords in quotation marks. That will give you the real competition for that keyword. Look for keywords with less than 30.000 searches. That way you'll rank higher in the search engines. |

Yes you can. My new site has only been promoted with SEO for 2 months now and I've hit page 1 a few times for keywords averaging between 35-868 million other sites. For Google it's harder but for Yahoo and Bing it's much easier.

When it comes to ranking, 18,000,000 results is a myth.
Google only returns 1,000 results maximum. You are only "competing" against 1,000 pages. In fact, even those first 1,000 results don't equate to "competition" because many of them aren't even actively attempting to rank for your keywords. Your focus should only be on the top 10. So yes, you possibly could rank on page one. Just analyze the first ten results and determine if you can "beat" them or not. |

is it easy to "beat" sites like wiki, tomson local, and bussines directorys?
thats all that shows up on page 1. its not vital to my site that i do show up on page 1, this keyword is very broad and is the "main niche" i am focusing on a couple of sub niches within this keyword. its like "acne" wereas my sub niche would be "acne for over 20's males" etc... (by the way its not acne) i was just thinking that if i can get onto page 1 for the main niche it would drive more traffic to my sub niche sites. as for the money side, spyfu is giving me figures of 0.50-1.00 per click and good advertiser competition. i know its not great, but i am just starting out. and just want learn as i go along. |

Yes. But, it will depend on your domain name, your niche and keywords.
I have found that Press Releases have given me a page one status. You want some competition. Just as KatyaSenina said. No competition is not good. |

It makes no difference, in principle, whether there are 100,000 results or 18,000,000 results: you're competing with only 10 of them, and those are the 10 on the first page. You need to examine and analyse those, see how many backlinks they have, and so on.
To rank on the first page of Google SERP's is relatively easy. To rank there for search-terms that significant numbers of people are actually looking for is another matter altogether. It's not actually possible to answer your question confidently from the information you've given, but my hunch is that it's not going to be easy.

To be "more accurate", use allintitle and intitle to find the competition number, you still need to check on top 10 result and their backlinks to know the actual works involve in ranking #1. For any kind of SEO, you are competing with top 10 result, so knowing their backlinks and on page optimization factor will give you better ideas.

As others have pointed out, you could reach the first page, but i would try to search your term with quotations around it, that will give you the best competition results, also it depends on the strength of that competiton too.

It is always good to count your competition in relation to your keyword. That gives you a better chance to be in Top 10 at Google.

I would say it is possible to hit the first page. I did it myself with a site that had 40,000,000 plus search results a while ago.
It was the first site I did this with and it's still on th fits page. However it could take about 3-4 months until you get there. Tino |

The thing you need to look for is the amount of "exact matches". This means the amount of search results when you type in your keyword term in quotes. If you're a newbie I recommend looking for keywords with no more than 10,000 exact matches.
In addition, you need to reverse-engineer the search results that appear for the exact results of this term. To do this, click to view the "cached" version of the website in question to determine the keyword density. Next, you need to analyze the relevancy and popularity of the website. To do this, firstly right-click anywhere on a web page and right-click. Next, click on view source. You need to look for the keyword, description and title meta-tags. Albeit meta-tags are nowhere near as effective as they used to be in SEO, they still help in determining the relevancy of a website in relation to the keyword phrase a consumer searched for. You should also download the Google Toolbar. The Google Toolbar allows you to determine the PR (Page Rank) of a website. This is basically how important Google ranks this website - or how popular it deems it to be. A website with a Page Rank of 4+ will usually be too hard to outrank in a short period of time. Finally, you need to check the amount of back-links a site has in-linking to it. The more backlinks a site has, the harder it will be to outrank that website. Assuming you're willing to put in a bit of work establishing backlinks for yourself, a site with fewer than 50 backlinks should be easy to outrank. That's just the basics. SEO is a topic of much debate in our community and I highly recommend you get the advice of an expert either in the War Room or an SEO consultant rather than listening to any of us lot. Hope this helps you out! |

Its not very difficult to rank for that if when you place your keywords in quotation marks theres not over 100k competing websites. SEO is a long term goal so make sure you are ranking for terms that you know will make you money.
Take a look along the side top see if there are any adwords, its a good sign that people are making money in this niche. Also test the niche out with an EZ article these rank easily and are a good indication of how you will rank. |

Can an 18 year old kid write a script that becomes the number 1 social networking site? It has nothing to do with being new or not... and everything to do with planning, talent, and execution.

I got a site of mine on page 1 with close to 18,000,000 results (17,700,000 as of writing this) and how I did it was by buying the site when it was 1 year old, it was already on page 2 then just 1 more year of constantly giving the search engines what they want... relevant, up to date content. The site is updated a few times a week with no exceptions.
So yes it can be done IMO, it'll just take time and constant attention for a year or more... even if you don't see results immediately, keep at it and keep giving the search engines and visitors more and more of what they want. What they want is images, videos, updates, social interaction, etc etc - Relevancy to your target keyword. It's quite simple really, it just needs to be done

Francof,
I don't mean to be rude but where on earth did you read that search engines want images lol? In addition, it doesn't matter how many search results there are... it matters how well optimized those sites are! I have ranked several times on the 1st page of Google for keyword phrases with 50 million competing sites before now. Not all of the keyword phrases were particularly well-optimized though! |

I guess it depends on the niche but in mine I know images help out a lot and no, I'm not gonna say what niche that is cause frankly, I'd like people to continue to think frequent image updates doesn't help in this niche ![]() Overall search engines like frequent, relevant updates, they also like media because people like media (videos, images (from my experience , etc) and they like social interaction because if people are interacting on your site, then there must be something relevant and interesting about it in their eyes. The search engine's only goal in ranking sites is ranking those that they believe will be more relevant to the searcher... so if frequent images updates are relevant for that search, then I think they will rank that site higher than a site without frequent images updates. On second thought, forget what I just said. Frequent image updates are worthless and no one should pay attention to it (except me) ;p .
