Default New FTC rules

Sorry if this has been here already posted - could not find it...To make it quick...can you tell me if new FTC rules apply to all marketers or only US based marketers? Do I need to worry if I live in Europe?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is an independent agency of the United States government, established in 1914 by the Federal Trade Commission Act. Its principal mission is the promotion of "consumer protection" and the elimination and prevention of what regulators perceive to be harmfully "anti-competitive" business practices, such as coercive monopoly.

The law is so vague that almost anyone can be found guilty of violating it. Due to vague and conflicting laws such as this one most Americans are now guilty of committing a federal felony about 3 times a day. Therefore, federal persecutors will go after low hanging fruit right here at home, not someone in another country.

You don't have anything to worry about yourself but if you used US based hosting or affiliate programs they might shut you down if you play things too fast and loose.

Frank Kern gave a great explanation of what's been going on down at the FTC. It's over on his blog: http://masscontrolsite.com/blog/?p=59

It's strange hearing a guy like Frank Kern say that this is a good thing because it weeds out competition. His customers, people who buy internet marketing programs, will be the ones that get "weeded out".

IMO, this is Y2K for most affiliates.

That's only going to be the case if most vendors offering affiliate programs shut them down because they are worried about the legal ramifications. There are still plenty of ways to market w/o running afoul of the FTC. You may, possibly take a conversion hit in some areas, but you'll still be able to market just fine.

From Frank's Blog:

"If you deliver enough value BEFORE asking for the sale, you should be able to sell plenty of stuff forever.

We’re SUPER lucky as Internet Marketers because when you build a list, you can constantly be providing great value for your subscribers for free …and when it’s time for you to sell something, they don’t need too much convincing
."

Here again, the value of your list comes shining through!

I've said it before and I'll continue saying it -- Concentrate on building and nurturing your list and fortune will follow.

But then, I can't do SEO to save my butt!

JR, you couldn't have said it better because I'm living exactly what you're saying. I wasted the first 18-20 million visitors of my initial traffic by having a FAKE newsletter
box. What an idiot I felt like because of that, but I finally learned being a Warrior.

I did a two hour discussion for my list on this topic, and there was some interesting ideas shared on the call. Should you wish to gander...
